|

Hello,
This is my first post here so thanks for a great forum and website.
my FSX will not start anymore, it just hangs on the start screen, ive tried to do a repair on it but no change. I was thinking of doing a complete reinstall but I need to know what files my missions and rewards and flight files are in. I know the other files I need but cant seem to these ones.
I have tried to do a search first on the forum but couldn't find any answers.
The last thing I did was install a Saab Viggen Addon which also had Scenery and when I restarted it loaded up the Add on Scenery and then that was it.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me.

I'm not sure if this will work, but personally speaking, I would go into your drive where you keep FSX, navigate to addon scenery, you should see the scenery folder that came with the Saab, temporary move this to desktop, and then see if FSX fires up, I would be surprised if it's the aircraft thats causing the problem. It's up to you if you want to try this method, or wait until someone else here has another idea.

Hey,
I tried that, I made a backup of the scerery addon file and copied the files there. then I backed all my addon items, aircraft, gauges, etc and then did a repair with the dvd hoping it would restore a file that was corrupt. I dont mind wiping the slate clean and reinstalling but I dont want to lose my mission status as Ive nearly completed them. Ive found all my other relevant files, ie flights, planes and configs.
Thanks |

Hi there,
The missions are probably saved here
C:\Documents and Settings\Insert Your Username Here\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX
Also there is a fsx.cfg file, right click on it and hit Rename, just add a 1 to the file and try to fire up fsx. |

Yep, need the filename and where it was downloaded.
He posted he made a recent add-on. Got to go there first, before you start hacking at the files and program.

Ok Thanks
Will have to wait to I go home from work to find out. But all I know for now is it was a Saab Viggen AJ37 Package from Simviation. Iam not sure at the moment if it was for FSX or 2004 but I do remember it had a AI Saab with it and its flight files and also some scenery. Which was both loaded in Add on Scenery and also the folder Scenery/World.
I have about 12 Miltary addons with Cop 3 and the FSUIC( cant remember its exact name) Module. I never had a problem with any of them. I have Carriers and other scenery add on to. All run good.
Thanks

Just a quick point.
As far as I know, do not add anything as for AI flights to FSX. It will crash it immediately. I haven't found or tried to see if TTOOLS works with FSX or not. I will play it safe for now, and say it doesn't.

| Ive used them before with a carrier package but then again I dont think they loaded properly. I reckon you might be onto something. Iam not sure until I get home but I think there was also a module with this file. I will be looking at these items first.............Thanks guys |

Yep, the AI stuff is what is causing it. If you can refind all the stuff, I would suggest going to where you installed them, and deleting them.

I tried what you suggested, but as per before it just hangs at the start screen. But with your direction Ive located the main files I need to backup. Iam completing a uninstall at the moment and clicked on the option to keep my saved files. If there is a small bug in there I dont mind spending the time to delete and reinstall now rather then lose files later.
Too all you guys out there whom spend a lot of your time replying and helping, Thanks.

Oh and as per previous question asked it was the AJ37.zip file from Simviation that started all this. AT the same time I had downloaded a Mirage 2000 file called mirage_f1cg.zip file and a patch file with it. This had not caused me problems.
Thanks |

Ok, I backed up my mission files and other items and did a uninstall of FSX. After the uninstall I noticed there were some folders and files left over and that it asked me if I wanted to keep my saved files in which I clicked Yes. I then restarted my computer and reload FSX. At the end I started FSX and it generated Scenery at the start screen and you guessed it, stuck there.
Things I have noticed is that in the task manager it says that FSX is using 98% of it and I left it there for 2 hours hoping it would get on with it. I guess Iam going to have completely wipe all FSX files except my backup and then reload fresh again and keep on trying. I know there is either 1 file or process holding it all up. Is there any other hidden files that dont get deleted on the uninstall that could cause problems on a reinstall. Once again my FSX ran perfect before all this problem so I wouldn't think it was a hardware issue.
Thanks |

| What CPU do you have? Graphics card, RAM (memory), Hard drive space? Did you try installing service pack 1 yet? |
