|

WOW! Let me say this real quick. After a good month long of "messing" around with FS9, I think I have become pretty experienced at it 8) .....well somewhat :? . I got the graphics working nice, gameplay is smooth, and adding additional aircraft like crazy  ! But I got a dilemma. Somewhere in loading up new aircraft I must have not read correctly, but how do I go about in fixing some "lighting" problems I have :?: ? Here is the problem: I have Kirk Olssons F-16 (along w/ a few other type fighters) whenever I turn on my lights, wether it be by pressing "L" or in sequence, my after burner lights up like the sun! I am sitting there idle on the tarmac, and AB is a good 4-5ft behind me. How do I go about re-configuring this?
Also, if you guys dont mind. I am having trouble adding scenery and new water texture. Water comes out all psychadelic looking like from the 60's! LOL. I am now trying to figure out this online flying. this too is a bit complicated! ugh! Anyways, Thanks for all ya'lls help, I do appreciate it. |

Hiya, glad to hear you have had fun and success with FS9, what a world of learning and discovery, eh? As for your A/B's firing up with the lights, it's because that effect has been included in the [LIGHTS] section of the aircraft's .CFG file (usually just named 'AIRCRAFT') in your aircraft's main folder. One of our moderators and effects guru's here, RD, may know if you can relocate that effect into the [SMOKESYSTEM] part of the .CFG file in order to have the reheat fire up upon hitting the 'I' key...but I'm not so sure it can be done, you may be stuck with what you've got. Many add-on fighters do, however, come with an .XML gauge that will fire up the burners at a certain throttle setting ( usually 90% or so) but you have to search for them, and the model needs to be set up for it from the gitgo or it probably gets pretty complicated to add the custom gauge along with the appropriately located burner flame effect to a plane that doesn't have it. Tomcatdriver may have an essay to post on the topic, too! (Not a jab Steve, I love your essays :!: 8O )
My two cents regarding the water replacement issues... does the readme insist that you set sliders a certain way in the Settings/Display/Scenery page? Sometimes you need to have detail and effects settings for the water or terrain jacked up a bit to get the goodies working. Might be a video card setting you need to investigate too...well, that's about all I got on this, others here actually know what they're talking about and may help you out with some specific troubleshooting techniques to help you avoid lunchbag letdown with your enhancements, best of luck and nice to have you here. :) |

The a/b problem is located inside your panel.cfg and under the lights section on your aircraft.cfg. If it is in the a/c.cfg under the lights, then they will activate everytime you turn them on.
If you get another panel that has coding, then they usually won't activate untill about 90-95% N1. My suggestion would be to edit your a/c.cfg, and find another panel to replace the original.
As for your other problems, we need filenames, author, and where you got it, to be of any real aid.

| Oh man! Thanks guys! ya'lls replies make sense. I guess I need to go into the .cfg file and mess around, huh? Let me see if I have this correct...(I know I DL an upgraded A/B effect) I get the A/B effect from where I put it...under "lighting" section of the .cfg file. I need to take it out and place it in my .panel file correct? As far as the water effect....i read a bit into just now...and it says I need to put my marker almost maxed out under settings. But here is the file info: Water Reflection Replacement Textures for Fs2004 from the Golden Eagles Squadron I DL'd from simviation. Thanks again! |

You cannot just add it to a panel. It would be alot easier and faster to get another panel for the F-16 that has the a/b configured in XML.
I'll see if I can find out where I got mine from. Stay tuned.

O.K. - This may be even better...almost all the way down the page is a post where buddy takes you through step by step...maybe save RD some work!
Best of luck...we all might learn something today!

Go to the second link Hark provided. Get the a/b from Simviation, link is there, and install per the directions in the readme.

By the way. If your looking for a cool panel for the F-16, try the link below.
http://www.fs2000.org/panel2k/news.asp?id=1040
You will still have to edit the Panel.cfg for the a/b's to be throttle controlled. In the pics below, you can see the "reheat" on and then off. All gaugesand radars do work.

| Thanks guys! I was reading the forum that HARK sent out on his second link. I have loaded everything correctly, but on the directions that "belgoede, from flyawaysimulations link" gave....I too cannot find the [Vcockpit09] section on the panel.cfg. All i see is [window00]+. I believe if i can figure out where the [vcockpit##] is i can set it up correctly. |

No problem.
Find the text in your Panel.cfg that matches the below in red. Then copy the text in blue, and add it below the red text in your panel. I already have everything you need edited already done. Just copy/paste it.
