Say you built or grabbed a jet with rotating jet engines, a Harrier for instance, and wanted an afterburner effect that followed the angle of the engines as they rotated around from lift off mode to flight mode...I wonder if this can be done. I know FS effects can be attached in gmax but I've never done it yet. It may be the only way to have what I want, eh? Can't really see any other way to move an effect with the model. Those aircraft .cfg files feature static co-ordinates right? Well, that means that I'll have to learn how to use the 'Attach' tool in gmax, I guess.

Yes, the afterburner flame must be modeled with transparency to be attached to an animation. It'll be a neat trick to pull it off with a light source that follows as well.

I've tried 100 times to get one to move with the engine on the JSF. Ain't going to happen unless added to the model, as GS said.

If you find something, let me know. I would love to have one with the Joint Strike Fighter.

Dear Forum Members,

Do they use the afterburner during VTOL?

Thanks,

LOL, probably not bud.....I just have this goofy, buggy military aircraft half-finished...and my jet engines rotate until they point the thrust at the ground to take off. I figured it would be neat to have afterburner effects that would fire against the ground when taking off VTOL style...you know, just for a bit of a 'cool factor'....any resemblance to a real-world aircraft or procedure is purely accidental. (And highly unlikely. )
