Well this is prob a easy question but what is a touch and go landing ? cause i landed one and i didnt get a ground freq wen i taxiied off the runway? is this a bug or just me ?

A "Touch-N-Go" is when you come in for a landing, then power up as the wheels touch the ground, and take off again. You never land completely.

What's the purpose of Touch N Go?

The military uses this tactic when they have no forward news that the airstrip they plan on landing on, is junk, and could possibly destroy it and it's cargo. So all services practice Touch-N-Go's. Mostly the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps practices this.

Do you really want to land on an airstrip that has 10ft (3m) holes all over it???

Although I have never seen Airliners using Touch-N-Go's. FS2004 associates Touch And Go's with a lot of my landings (if not on IFR).

I wonder why an airliner would ever need a Touch and Go. Or even if it's realistic in FS for an airliner to use touch and go's..

But I use it more often with Cessna's or King Airs if I want to land in the Himalaya's (there's this nice little airport called Lukla (VNLK).. beautiful!)

Another very good reason for touch and goes is for training. This allows you to become very proficient in approachs, touch downs, climbs, and pattern work very quickly. As far as airliners are concerned, this is not normal practice due to the fuel and the other costs consumed with no income being generated. However, the touch and goes are performed with airliners when a new pilot is undergoing intial training and eval. Where I live, we had a air national guard unit stationed just a few miles from here and I often worked just off base. The KC-135's often did touch and goes to retain their proficiency. (Sadly, the base has recently begun the transition to an intelligence unit and will no longer be a flying unit). Since the KC-135 is based upon the B707, it is readily apparent that airliners can and do perform this maneuver and that it is possible to do so on even a relatively short airfield.

Finally, sometimes the unexpected happens during a landing and immediate take-off is needed to avoid dire consequences. Animals wandering onto the runway (as well as people and other traffic) comes to mind as one of the reasons this would become necessary. Way back when I first started flying, I had to do the same when a totally unexpected gust of wind (from the starboard side) literally blew my aircraft sideways and into line with several small buildings. W/o the prior training, things would not have been pretty.

flyrcoyle is very correct concerning airliners.

We have a deer population problem at KOHM, in which the deer feed on the the grass right next to the runway. Pilots that see them, are weary about landing here.

To date, no deer has ever jumped onto the runway while a plane is landing or taking off.

I do know, that alot of pilots wished they could have shot them for dinner, instead of flying.

I don't believe that this is really considered a "Touch and Go". A Touch and Go" is something that is pre-arranged with ATC. It is not something that the pilot does at the last minute. I think that the above paragraph would be considered more in the lines of an "Aborted Landing" , "Missed Approach", or a "Go Around". 8) 8)

Although it may not technically be the same, the touch and go requires the same control inputs as the aborted landing. The only real difference is that one is prearranged as a practice manuever while the other is a very good reason for the practice.
