Can anyone help me please. I loaded FSX on my Compaq laptop and ran it with no problems whatsoever. Then I downloaded and installed SP1. It still runs ok, but the colour and appearence of all the planes appears drab and greyish, as if they are flying in shadow!! Also the colour of runways has been effected in a similar way, especially asphalt runways. As a consequence of this i'm a bit worried about loading SP2, and have even considered re-installing FSX and forgetting about the service packs altogether. I will be grateful for any hep or advice.

Many thanks,

1 can you provide a few pictures of what your planes, and or scenery look like so we can "see" what you "see"

2. what are your computer specifications?? what are you working with??

kind of computer?
PROCESSOR?
XP ? VISTA ?
VIDEO CARD?
HARD DRIVE SIZE?
SOUND CARD?

these are just the basics so GS, RD, MEL, Harkkonen can troubleshoot your computer. To me it sounds like there is a Video Card Driver issue, but im not quite the expert around here, it just sounds that way from the problems you describe. -- my advice, hold off for a little bit longer, a day or 2 before you go screaming like a banshee to COMPAQ demanding an updated driver.... wait till someone else chimes in and can give a better explanation.

When you install SP1, your FSX has to be spotless. In other words, you cannot have any addons for a/c or scenery.

More than likely, you'll have to uninstall SP1 and then uninstall FSX.

SP1 has to installed on a clean FSX.

First: Did you remove ALL addons???? If not, then it won't work. You must have a Virgin FSX. Might want to do a repair, or complete uninstall and reinstall.

You must install "vcredit" before you install the update: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee&displayLang=en

Also, check this out. http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007/05/15/fsx-sp1-preparing-to-install.aspx

There's alot of info at FSInsider also. http://www.fsinsider.com/support/Pages/default.aspx

Check and read all you can.

Thanks for your advice. I Un-installed FSX and re-installed it from scratch, and then re-installed SP1 on the clean FSX installation. Lo and behold, exactly the same problem occured, with drab grey-ish airplanes and peculiar and drab runways. Sorry, but I forgot to get a screen shot. I'll check my photos to see if there is any I forgot. As far as my system goes, the Spec. is as follows:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Processor: Intel CORE2 CPU T5200 @ 1.6GHz, 1600MHz 2 Core, 2 Logical Processors

Display: Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family
Adapter Type: Intel GMA 950
Adapter RAM: 224MB

Hard Drive: 106.61 GB (37GB Free after FSX Installation - could probably do with a de-frag)

Sound Card: Conexant High Definition Audio

I hope this info will be enough for someone to figure out what is going on here.

Thanks again for your help

OK, lets start from fresh......

1. You cannot add SP1 to FSX if it has been modified in any shape or form. That means no addons. Scenery, AFCAD, Aircraft. It must be as virgin as Mary.

2. If you do have any addons, then you must do a complete uninstall.

3. If you had to uninstall and reinstall it, or yours is virgin, then follow the below.

A. You "HAVE" to install "vcredit" before you can install the SP1 update. If you installed the SP1 update, before the "vcredit", then you have to remove SP1.

B. Now that you have "vcredit" installed, you may now install "Service Pack 1".

C. Now that you have both installed in the correct order, you may now reinstall any and all addons.

On the SP2 and Acceleration packages. You can only run ONE of them. You cannot have both in FSX. So if you have SP2, then get the Acceleration package, you have to remove SP2. If you have Acceleration, then you DO NOT need to have SP2.

If you have both, your going to have problems.

Anybody think I should make a specific sticky on this?????

Considering that this seems to fenagle lots of people, and has to be done (or undone) properly, maybe you should 'Sticky' it. Might help. I know when I get into FSX it would be nice to have a 'Sticky' post.

Thanks Hark for the vote. But you won't be allowed to view it. LOL. RD
