| I had a very nice F 14 downloaded from this site, but recently I had to reformat my hard drive. I just got on to re download it, but cannot find it here or on simviation. It was a large file (more than 50mb) and came in a few different liveries. The one that stands out the most in my mind is an American flag paint job. If anybody can point me in the correct direction for this file, I would greatly appreciate it. |

One name: Steve Hinson.
Try to search for that one and you'll find the best Tomcat ever made for FS. |

There is only only one, and it's here, from our very own Steve Hinson.

| the plane you seek is over at http://simviation.com/fs2004military126.htm the 9th plane down. it should have the FLAG paint job you want... it is called F14d Rev 3. there is also a F14d Rev 4 over @ simviation.com but it has most of the same paints as the rev3 but if you know how to add textures to a plane it is worth having |

| Thanks, I think the one on simviation is the one I was looking for. I downloaded the one here by Jim Henson, but it seemed to be the FSX version. Once again, thank you. |

oh Hark, you bad, bad boy.
What??? You didn't think I would recognize my own paint. And then to put that furry green thing in the cockpit, that my spider would be more than happy to eat.
We are done. At least, I am done with you, untill you have another awesome project you need to be BETA tested.
Actually I am trying to figure out where the hell we have a Jim Henson F14. 8O
RD
BTW: Great job on adding Kermit to the plane. Well done. LMAO |

| Ok, I downloaded the F14d Rev4 from simviation and I installed it as the directions said. At least, I think I did. When I was running it before I had to clear my hard drive the afterburners were tied to throttle and the sonic boom and wingtip vortex were tied to airspeed. Now, however, they seem to be tied to the lights. Does anybody know what I did wrong? |

| I believe that is the way it was designed. Possibly not for the one you were thinking of, but if you got one of the Hinson models it is tied to the lights function. |

| In that case, I'll keep looking, but other than the differences with the effects being tied to the lights the aircraft is identical. |

afterburners are "LIGHTS". They should be tied to both, but more throttle than lights. They are controlled by the lights, but they are tied to throttle.
Sonic Boom effect is tied to speed so that when you pass +/- ~725 Knots, it will go off to show you passing MACH 1.
as for the contrails, i disabled them cause to me they give a FAKE sense. do you really have contrails when flying straight and level @ 180 KIAS @ 500 AGL Altitude over the ocean???? I highly doubt it!!!<-- F-18, yep you sure do... But that's a F-18, and that was on the boat.
( in cocpit view ONLY, turn on your lights by pressing L . do not press it if you are in SPOTVIEW mode, as it will somehow activate the AFTERBURNERS. -- to get rid of the contrails, if you dont like them... open the AIRCRAFT.CFG and put // in front of ::
light.9=5, -30.0, -17.0, 0.6, fx_contrail_s ,
light.10= 5, -30.0, 17.0, 0.6, fx_contrail_s ,
so they are no longer activated AT ALL.. they are turned off if you have // in front of them. |

Hi there, I just had a look at the name of the .ZIP file for my Steve Hinson Tomcat. It's 'f14drev2' and here's the scoop:
If you start in spot view and try to light the afterburners nothing happens. Once you cycle through the views once, back in spot view the afterburners now light at the very top end of throttle input. You have to cycle through the views once to see the reheat light up. (Oh god it's lovely!)
Then I switched my lights off in spot view with the 'L' key and fired up throttle to max. Those babies lit up hot and orange...and the thunder was good.
EDIT: ...And the wingtip contrails seem to be properly tied to the Angle of Attack rather than the airspeed. Cruise along and then rotate 45 degrees and go into a full aileron/elevator gut busting turn and the contrails show. I guess when you pull up sharply they occur too. Very cool. I love my Tomcat. The sound file makes me giddy, if you have a good subwoofer you're in for a treat. The whole thing was done by folks that really, really knew their Tomcat stuff, including the flight dynamics. |
