| hello all. i was looking into buying a flight yoke/rudderpedals. but don't know which one to choose. but then i thought what about buying just rudder peddels? would that work with out haveing to buy a yoke to. or would i need both? cause i read some stuff about the saitek yoke. and didn't really like some of the reviews. what would some of you think? |

The topic of Yoke vs Joystick is going to receive a large variety of responses.
If you prefer to fly the SHOOT-EM-UP BANG BANG military aircraft or the older aircraft the have a joystick vs yoke then by all means continue using your existing joystick and purchase the rudder peddals first.
If you prefer to fly the more modern aircraft that have a yoke then you should definitely purchase the Yoke first and then purchase the rudder peddals. Please keep in mind that if you choose this route, you can always turn on the AUTO RUDDER feature that will buy you time until you save up enough money to purchase the rudder peddals.
PS: I have a great saitex joystick and a pair or older (Gameport) CH Products Yoke and Rudder peddals. I only use my joystick about 1 hour per year because I always prefer to fly with a Yoke and Rudder Peddals which match the type of aircraft that I prefer.8) 8) |

| oh ok. thank you sir. i will think about it more. cause yesterday i tryed some cross wind landings on the stick. and couldn't crab the plane because i have the twist action type stick. and that why i was considering a yoke/rudder peddels. but can i use just the rudder peddels with out haveing to buy the yoke? |

Yes---You can use the Rudder Pedals with a Joy Stick. It is a simple process to link the Rudder Pedals to the appropriate AXIS.
PS: There is an excellent article in the May 2008 issue of Computer Pilot Magazine that compares the Saitex Yoke/Throttle/Rubbers to the CH Products Yoke/Throttle/Rudders.
I highly recommend this magazine 8) 8)

PS: You do not have to call me Sir. I will answer to Skipper or Dan but in about a month, I will be referred to as Lt. Dan in the Civil Air Patrol. However, RD can call me Sir Dan. I am reacting to his recent post, "And just for giggles, if you ever refer to me in a post, and/or use my name, it MUST look like this: Sir RD".

Sir Yes Sir, Lt. Dan,.... SIR !!
Congrats on the promotion.
As for the topic, I don't have a problem using my stick for crosswind landings. They are sometimes very difficult, but under 50mph crosswinds, I don't have a problem.

Sir RD:
I always check the POH concerning maximum Cross-Wind limits of any aircraft that I fly in. Most of the small Cessnas that I am familiar with would "strongly" advise that I stay home and watch a good movie rather than fly with a crosswind of 50 MPH.
Perhaps the F15 and F22 Raptor that you fly will tolerate a high cross-wind of 50 MPH. 8) 8) |
