|
|
Hi Guys,
I've recently inherited a bit of cash and would like to put together a system designed specifically to run FSX as well as possible. Can anyone give me advice or suggestions as to the best configuration, for example, the best motherboard/chipset/processor combination, best type of memory, and how much, best graphics card, hard drive/type etc. Cash isn't unlimited, but I have never had the opportunity to do this before and would like to take it when I have the chance. Thanks in advance for any help/advice,
Peter K Cross (UK)

The bottom line is your last dollar.
How much do you have to spend on this??? Just a rough idea would be great.

I suppose that If I spend in dribs and drabs rather than all at once so that my dear wife remains unaware of the total I may get away with up to £2000, which works out to about $3960 at today's exchange rate.

WOW! thats a big heap of cash.
I would go with:
2GB corsair RAM
1 Nvidia 8800ultra
windows vista (So FSX is DX10 compatible)
any 2 core processor(NO MORE THAN 2) that has 2.5 GHZ per core
a 250 MB hard drive would do more than fine
One of those soundblaster 24 bit live sound cards.
and always be a bargin shopper! Because if you have enough money left over you could deck out your PC with a yoke, throttle, pedals, and AP control panel.
thats what I would consider a great FSX PC by my standards. 8) |

Oh yeah! thanks jackyaz!
lol, my mistake, 250MB wouldn't even be enough to hold FSX on it, 250GB would be it. |

| I'd suggest spending a little more (perhaps $20 more?) for a 320GB HD! |

Hey Cat1, if your wish list includes a Blu-Ray player, why not go ahead and get the recordable one too???
Yeah I know how much they are, I just installed one after replacing my PSU. I don't think I have ever seen $550 go *POOF* so fast.

Are you kidding me???? You can have your red glow, as it is in the middle of the heat range. Mine glows red as soon as I boot up. When I am almost done with wreaking havoc on FS9 or FSX, I have to put on a Fire Proximity Suit, because it is close to glowing white. And I can't forget about the Lead thermals I have to wear too, because of the radiation being emitted.
Yeah, some days it sucks to be me.

| Yo', 'fish.....I dont remember anybody saying anything about "saving" money, and it was stated that the list was from "wish" country so I am a little disturbed by your "excessive" comment. Being a freedom loving type of individual and not wanting to have to save the world's economy by myself...I say spend your as**s off! I cant get good used stuff without it  |

| I say never buy anything from a manufacturer, all they do is buy parts and make you pay 50% more money than they did, so you could have a really cool looking alienware computer for three thousand when you could get the same quality for 2 thousand! Imagine what you could do to that computer with an extra 1 grand! SLI that videocard! get a 2 terabyte hard drive! buy 500$ worth of payware addons! also, who the hell would want their computer to glow red, mine glows blue and that freaks me out. |
