| I found a post for fs9 a few years back that described how to enable visual damage when a plane crashed or collided. Is that still available in FSX? |

I think you will find it has to be modeled into the aircraft....

Check the aircraft .cfg for "damage".

You will need to make sure that you have damage detection turned on in your FSX "Settings/other settings/realism" panel. The default aircraft in FSX do not have damage modeling anymore. You will need a damage modeled aircraft, such as default Fs9 or applicable third party models, to import into FSX. I found an excellent reference site which can be perused here:

1. do a search on here for NICKS MASSIVE CRASH *you want the final version*
2. open any aircraft folder, and then the .CFG for that particular aircraft
3. add VISUAL_DAMAGE=1 at the bottom of each section for each "variant / paint" ..... see example below for the cessna 172 ... EACH [fltsim.?] must have the visual_damage=1 for all of your textures for that plane to be able to show crash damage
[fltsim.0]
title=Cessna Skyhawk 172SP
sim=Cessna172SP
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=Cessna172SP_check
kb_reference=Cessna172SP_ref
atc_id=N176CM
ui_manufacturer=Cessna
ui_type="C172SP Skyhawk"
ui_variation="White with blue and gray"
description="A stable and trustworthy plane, most pilots have logged at least a few hours in a Cessna 172, since it's the most widely available aircraft in the rental fleet, and is used by most flight schools. Since the first prototype was completed in 1955, more than 35,000 C172s have been produced, making it the world's most popular single-engine plane. One of Cessna's first tricycle-gear airplanes, the 172 quickly became the favorite of a growing class of business pilots. Its reliability and easy handling (along with thoughtful engineering and structural updates) have ensured its continued popularity for more than 35 years."
visual_damage=1
When you hit a tree, building, plane, or any other "solid object" that would cause a crash, you will see the wing rip off, tail... other damages smoke, fire.... etc etc etc ( see my pics below ) |

FSX aircraft have to be modeled in for damage, but if you use FS9 aircraft in FSX, then you can use NICKS MASSIVE CRASH FINAL (found here on surclaro) and just add the tag line
visual_damage=1
in your FS9 aircraft .CFG files at the bottom of each [fltsim.?] section for the fire and debris to show
(see example pic below) - example is from FS9 |
