Got a little further over the last few days. The hangar looks pretty simple at the first few glances, then you realize that if you're going to do it right...well, you're going to do it right. Subtle little architectural stuff, placement of the building blocks, relative dimensions of each one....then at the end a fine-tuning of overall comparative dimensions should result in a pretty true depiction of this hangar. Did some research and have better images now too. Modeling away in Anim8or but still probably a few days away from finishing the physical thing and getting to textures. This should be a bloody nice hangar once I'm done. Sorry to draw it out a little time-wise Haun, but I think you'll be pleased.
Will update as soon as possible.
(This hangar must be something in real life, along with that whole base, quite a history there. 8O ) |

Hey Hark, I'd be interested in giving a try to texturing this hanger along with you. If you don't mind. 8)

Cool, I'll map and unwrap it in gmax in a way that allows for straightforward, 'What you see is what you get' templates for texture application. Maybe on top of that you could look at placing a few items within the hangar with EZ-Scenery. It might be superb to have a few items near the inner walls for realism....some 'air stairs', tool chests, workbenches, power units, vehicles, etc. I'll leave the decisions and placements of anything like that with you along with some texture fun....thanks bud.
BTW, I'll get you all my images as well....still trying to decide whether the large stripes around the building sides are windows or just building-side graphics....these reference images are fairly limited in clarity. (You'll see.) |

| Getting a little closer now, took a while to get the facade close to the real thing...looking at grainy, tiny photos. Now the roof is well in proportion to the facade, even if the side-buildings of the hangar are not dimensioned yet. |

| Thanks Mel...pretty well got 'er done now! Well - the 'Anim8or' modeling anyway...got to bring it into gmax and map and unwrap most of the meshes so RD can have some fun with texturing it. I could get a little more detailed with the model, but there's really no need at this point IMHO...I'm thinking it'll be a good depiction of the hangar once the textures are on it. |

OOOOOH....MY......
That is just way too cool, and realistic. **enter "jaw drop" here**
I am speechless, and very much amazed. You've really outdone yourself with this one Glenn.

Thanks guys, this one's been fun....I just finished a scale-test at Sea-Tac, and think it's pretty close now. Will spend this evening mapping and unwrapping the meshes in gmax, to facilitate the texturing of this hangar.
This is the part where I have to do a good job with the templates that I send off to RD with the package...or instead of sending back the file with a bottle of J.D., he'll send anthrax. 8O |

| My apologies with the time factor on this one....spent all weekend with the kids, & weekdays too...not a whole whack of energy left in the evenings lately for the work involved. Have patience Haun, I'll get this mapped and off to RD very soon and we'll have you a seriously nice hangar. (Started the mapping, but there are over 40 meshes to deal with, believe it or not - I probably won't actually unwrap them all, just the critical ones....you'll see..... :D) |

| Will be done shortly. I realized halfway into the map/unwrap process that I could cut down on draw calls big time by texturing the building blocks first and then cloning the pieces that were identical within the build. If done right, you only apply textures once for meshes that are repeated exactly...and then they're, well...repeated exactly...without the excess number of templates that I had going on here. I know this principle well, but got caught up in constructing the hangar to my satisfaction...and forgot about a proper 'workflow'. Hope to get a build off to RD for some texturing fun by tomorrow, and will at the same time send you a file so you can do scale tests, etc. :D |
