well when i record. i press the F9 button. The fraps counter turns red for 1/2 second and then into a white "1" for ~2 seconds then back to yellow. i press F9 again to "stop" recording and the same happens.
No new files are created - specifically AVI's |

Firstly, you need to set it up properly, then you need to select a path and folder to store the clips........ I take you have already done this,

Secondly....... you only use Fraps to capture short clips, then it requires something like Windows Movie Maker, to edit, add titles, effects & transitions, only then do you have your finished movie.
I sugest you change your capture key from "F9" to "\" as I have done, using the \ key, does not interfere with any keystrokes used in FS9...... The display number changes from yellow to red when activated, and vice versa.......... I don't know where you get white from.... the demo version will give you 30 second bursts, more than enough to make a decent movie......... Now ........... Am I wasting my time here ?

I say you are wasting your time.........but please lad, do continue
I myself have been experimenting with a little toy called CamStudio. You can set it to record a specific area of your desktop or the whole desktop. It can also record the sound from your computer or another input such as the mic. So far, it seems to have less of an impact on FS than Fraps does, but I am still working with it. |

DO NOT USE F9. Use the " \ " under the backspace key.
Post up all the pics as to your settings, so we can get a better idea of what you have set up. This will more than likely, help us help you better.

I have a folder titled Fraps on my drive that has FS9. ( J ). Inside that folder, is another called Fraps videos.
Makes it easy to find and locate.
