Upon first impression, I was amazed at what DX10 could produce in FSX. In general, the entire world looks more vivid. DX10 seems to light the world very accurately; I could actually tell the difference between 8am and 5pm. Secondly, the water looks stunningly crisp and sparkly. Third, "light bloom" is completely redefined. When the surface of an aircraft is facing directly towards the sun, it reflects light towards the camera. When viewed at a proper angle, DX10's HDR effect produces a halo around the white, washed out spot.
I have one concern, however. What happened to FSX's famous four-pointed lens glare? (as demonstrated in the following screenshots)

Third screenshot --- DX9
In DX10 mode, the spectacular "star glare" produced by the sun and point lights on the ground is nonexistent. But when switching back to DX9, I see glare! What's going on?
Note the title of this thread. I welcome any of you who've had quite some experience with this "DX10 preview" to post your opinions.
EDIT: I attached two screenshots; one taken in DX9 and the other in DX10. Compare the two and note the sun glare. IMO, the glare in DX9 looks more appealing. |

no chance of possibly showing a picture of say around 11a - 3p to see if there is lens flare there? i doubt it will make a difference, but with the sun so close to the horizon it might be the glare on the water that is giving me an optical illusion...... or with DX10 it may correct for that effect and blur out the flare altogether. Looks great though
(btw i voted for DX9 as i do not have a vista machine) |
