I am sure this has been brought up before... I am new to FSX and like the idea of added aircraft. ( btw, those of you who build these new aircraft
and textures, you ROCK!)
BUT.....
When trying to edit my aircraft.cfg file, why do I keep getting the following error. I have Vista, signed on as administrator and using notepad.....
Cannot create the C\Program files\microsoftflight simulator x\simobject\airplanes\B737_800\aircraft.cfg file
Make sure that the path and file name are correct
Why wont this allow me to make changes?
Thanks
This is starting to drive me crazy because I have some new 737-8's and 747-4's that I want to add.

What are you using to open, edit, and save the .cfg. Notepad is the best/easist to use.
Also, make sure you turn off UAC, if using VISTA.

UAC = User Account Control
More here: http://www.petri.co.il/what's_uac_in_windows_vista.htm
To turn it off:
http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm
If you are the only one on the system, turn it off.

Ugh! I do use a login/adminitrator password to login to my Vista desktop. So I'm guessing UAC must be turned on?
Lemme get back to you on this one. I'm on a roll here with a storyline write.
But in the mean time, what benefits can be gained by turning it off?

call me non educated, but i heard that it was a bad idea to turn the UAC off.
I dont think that its the UAC, if its giving you a Can not create error.
How are you trying to access the file |

Like anything else...
Click on .cfg file, choose program i want to use to open it and viola, it
opens, i try to add a new fltsim... and it wont let me save it. then I say
something like "CRAP" and re-read the readme file that says just copy
and paste this info. It sounds easier than it is apparently. ](*,) |

This corrected my problem. thanks for your help. why would that cause that problem, If I log in as the administrator..
Either way, that fixed it so thanks again. |

Settle down guys on the UAC. It was only mentioned on my behalf because sometimes it can interfere with simple stuff.
If your concerned about your security, then leave it on.

UAC is what makes you have to say yes or no to EVERYTHING you want to do. :)
Take it off, and it runs (almost) like XP.
Cheers!
