Hey all, those of you who know me know that I was never a big fan of dumping another G into my computer just to play an eighty dollar game.

Oh, excuse me, I should have said, "To use an eighty dollar Simulator."

My question to those of you who have done exactly that, (you know who you are), is this... Is it worth the money? Should I go for it? (I now have the money) Or is it a waste of my hard earned cash?

All opinions are welcome.

Thanx

If you really dig FS and have the money to spare, then go for it. Success or failure is an outcome, it's all about the adventure. Of course we dont know what tests you will have to overcome. For me the competition is pretty stiff. An eighteen month old, chores, vehicle maintenance, a tight budget and time constraints all add up to watching others wear the shiny off the new stuff but I still go for it when I do get the chance.

If you think that Flight Simulator is a "game" and you want to compare your scores, or your FPS, or your other scores with your friend at the water fountain then go ahead and purchase more hardware and upgrade to FSX.

If you want to think of Flight Simulator as a "simulator" and you don't need to buy expensive graphics to display each blade of grass, tree leaf, motorboat, sailboat, or automobile, then there is no problem with staying with FS9. FSX is great software that is designed work now but to work better with future hardware. You need to evaluate your needs and your budget. You also need to take a serious look at the multi-billiion dollar bail-out that our friends in Washington just passed. It will take some time for the economy to bouce back.

I have FSX on my desktop computer (I received it free as a Beta Tester). I was unable to run FSX on my new laptop because it performed like a turtle. Therefore, I obtained a "new" copy of FS9 on EBAY very cheap and it runs great on my laptop. When I gave a demo to my local CAP squadron, everybody was very impressed. Note: When I received a free copy of FSX, I donated my old FS9 to the local EAA Chapter to be used for future Young Eagles training. 8) 8)

PS: I enjoy a good game as much as the next guy which is why I say "GO TAMPA BAY DEVIL RAYS".

To me it really depends on how much you need to upgrade. You mentioned a thousand dollars...based on pure cash, I'd stick it out with FS9...It's a great sim.

However, if you just need maybe a new graphics card, more RAM, etc...Go for it! FSX provides a variety of missions and challenges to make your experience more entertaining.

And skipperdan has a good point too. It also depends on how you use it.

To be honest, the cost of the upgrade would be a DVD and a new graphics card. I exaggerated the cost a little. Plus an eighty dollar "Simulator". That comes to about five hundred.

I only called it a game to get you all excited.

The real truth is... I use it as both a sim and a game. Sometimes I just want to have fun. Other times, I want to test my skills. Which, to be honest with you, are often found wanting... :P :P :P
