|
|
| hi guys and gals - as a long-haul pilot I am in the habit of using my 2002 and 340 add on software to practice before each of my 6 monthly simulator details. My next detail is based in Dubai and the navaids required for much of the approaches are not included (eg. VOR app). Can anyone recommend the EASIEST way of getting them installed - I'm afraid I am not a hardened user of FS and dont have the expertise that clearly many of you do. Are they included in 2004? Thanks in advance. Mytch |

I had a cursory look around the internet to see what you were talking about. I'm pretty amateur at real flying procedures and navaids, etc, so was flying sort of blind. Looks like there are some navaids in FS2002, but the completeness and accuracy was apparently lacking...as you said. I didn't really come out of my search knowing if FS2004 offered any improvement.
I did come to find that there are a few Freeware, and a few Payware programs that enable you to install missing or crappy navaids for FS2002, and FS2004...but they sure didn't seem simple to install from my initial reading of the file descriptions...and were only base programs - it seemed you still had to find the particular navaids that you wanted to use with the programs.
One program, which I saw was Payware (pretty sure) - called FSNav, but there are a few others around. I'm not sure if they would suit you, but as I said, I have no experience with the procedures, or the software you might need to make your Dubai flights realistic and accurate. I will have another look around the 'Googlesphere' today as I have the time, and maybe post a few links to see if you find any of it useful at all.
Welcome to our fine forums by the way, maybe you'll have a chance in the future to help us out with your specific flight experience. 8) |

If I am reading what I am seeing correctly... FSNav(igator) is no longer being supported or is it being developed forward for use with FSX. What a bummer! We do have some long time users of the program here, I haven't used it much/at all.
I think an upgrade to FS2004 may be a good idea, but to be honest I don't know that it would really make a a huge difference. Yes, the additional NAV AIDS are there, but may not be complete enough for a real world pilot trying to familiarize themselves with the approach.
You probably have better access to the procedures than I do so I will default back to you on that, although if you would like to share that information most of us are always looking for that type of information. But have a read of the link and see if it might help.
This is a direct link to Flight Sim Commander...

I just wanted to get this link in here as we work towards a solution. Here is some of the more pertinent data we will need to make this happen.

yep, what you read is correct. FSNav from my research that i have done, is CLOSED. They will not update for FSX nor put out any further updates beyond that FSNav 4.7 that is already out for FS2004. http://www.fsnavigator.com/ Sorry. |

| thanks again all ... yeah all i need to famil is the correct VOR/ILS arrangement and some non-precision approaches in the database. If they are all in 2004 then I am good to go. Don't need the graphics/scenery and stuff outside the window as by the time we get to land there is so much going on that its a matter of trying to cope with the instrumentation in IMC. 2002 only has ILS approaches. great forum thanks.
