I'm new to this site and forum. I've tried installing the file fr_minmx without success. Am in Windows XP and using Mozilla Firefox. Downloaded the file OK, unzipped it and moved it to the FSX SimObjects file but the aircraft will not show up when I run FSX. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you.

Hi DogMarine, welcome to Surclaro..........

Firstly...... Where did you get the download from, can you supply a link and the full file title ?

Also, make sure the A/c folder is not in a second folder within SimObjects/Airplanes

Lets get that bit out of the way first, and take it from there.

Mel.

I downloaded this file from this site. It is shown as the Mini Max on page 2 of your FSX Props with the file name fr_minmx.zip.

Sorry, but I don't understand your second question. When I unzipped the file (using 7-Zip) the resultant file was dragged into the Aircraft file in the SimObjects folder and is shown as a separate file with the name fr_minmx.

What he means, is that sometimes when authors zip up a file they will often put the same name on the folder as the aircraft folder contained within the zip. So, what happens is that your zip was extracted to the simobjects/airplanes folder, and it does have the indicated name, but if you look inside you are supposed to see the panel, model, texture folders as well as the .cfg and .air files, NOT another folder with the aircraft name on it. That is the essence of the double folder snafu with some downloads.

Also, consider checking the textures folder for a jpeg called "thumbnail"

if there isn't one, find a picture of the plane, drag it into each texture folder, and name it "thumbnails"

Hey King'....if it doesnt show up in the aircraft selection menu, the thumbnail wont matter. Also, the size for those thumbnails is important as well.

Wow, I learned something new. You were right, Mel. The folder that I moved into the Airplane folder had only two files, FR_MinMax and a Read Me. The latter instructed me to simply add the FR_MinMax file to the Airplane folder and I missed that. It's that second file, which confusingly has the same name, that has the panel, model, etc. files in it. I redid things and it works fine now. Thanks much and also to the other responders.
