Wasn't quite sure where to put this question.

I will be in class for much of the day and thus my laptop battery will be insufficient, meaning I will have to use notebooks. (Bad idea, as I have lousy handwriting.) I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 and was shocked to see a new battery from dell costs 200 dollars. I found a site www.excelcomputerinc.com that seems to offer them at $50. Everything in the price list says "PULL" in the condition collumn. What does "PULL" mean. Also, has anyone had any experience with this company? And finally, is a used battery, or even two or three (at $50 a pop) a good investment rather than paying $200 for a new one? I am expecting this laptop to be chunked in 2 or three more years (basically when I finish college,) so a battery that lasts 15 years is really unessacary (word spelled something like that.) Right now, I have my original battery and it is 1 year old, give or take a few weeks. I always discharge it whenever I can. Any help would be appreciated.

-Ben

Tell me is it a lithium-ion or nickle-metal-hydride one? Not sure about the spelling on this one, but the mark looks like this li-ion, or NI-CD .

Its the exact model number of the original Dell Laptop I listed. I know all about the NIcad Lion issues. I am looking for specific help from a computer tech (and I know we have some) or some one with experience with that company I mentioned. A computer tech or someone with experience with batteries designed for high current, high tech applications would know which type of battery it would be.

Thanks for your interest though, you are so thoughtful.

I was asking bacause those two types of abtteries have some major differences, for diffren kinds of people...

NI-CD: it is perferred to charge this batteries only when completely empty, thus extending battery life, and the complete charge numbers (around 1000 times)

Li-ION: can be charged all the time, no matter how full it is, it does not affect the total charges number, which is a bit less than the NI-CD batteries (arround 700-800 times). Also cannot be shotr circuited, because I totally destroys them, and it you short circuit NI-CD batteries, you just discharge them, and they're ready for use after a recharge.

I hope this helps a bit, if not to You, maybe to somebody else...
