Ok...first things first. What type of connection do you have? Cable, ISDN, xDSL, etc...

Second, what type of modem (router) are you using? make, model, etc..

Third, what type of switch or hub are you using?

For perspective:

Which way does your computer connect to the internet:

Computer ---------------- Modem/Router --------- Internet

Computer ---------- switch/hub -------- Modem/Router ------- Internet

The second would be usually only if you have more than one computer connecting to the internet.

Now, what type of firewall if any are you using? Are you using Windows XP? SP1 or SP2?

Once you have supplied all that info, I can get you running with the world in a matter of a few minutes.. Thanks. Make sure you include brands and models when replying. THanks,

these days, i figure its basically plug and play... if my father in law can set up a router... i'm sure you can too. i think it might be easier to help you if you explain to us what you have already tried. have you read the instructions and followed them and are running into a problem? also, i might be worth while to just get on google and type in how to setup a router

I have no clue when it comes to that router. I will only ever use Linksys as they are the best and the easiest to set up. Netgear is a close second, but linksys still blows them away.

If you wish, and the timing is right, you can get email me directly. Get a program called RealVNC. Google it for the site. Install the server of it. Message me via email or AIM/ICQ/MSN and I can connect to your computer and get it all set up. The only thing that will be required is access INTO the router. Thus, before you do anything, type this into your web browser:

http://192.168.1.1

That SHOULD connect you into your router. If you have done nothing, and it asks for a login/pw, the login is usually either left blank or it is admin. The password is usually admin. If you can access the router insides that way, then I can help you out. If you can't, goto the computer store, and buy a linksys switch/hub. You'll be much happier, and many of us can then help you out very easily. 8)

Again, I have no clue about that router. If you don't wish to call tech support (which should be your first place to go...you paid for it) then I would have to see what it is doing. If you get the program RealVNC (google that to find it) and install the server, you can contact me directly (not on here) and I can jump on your computer remotely and fix it.

If you wish to do that, contact me OFF here.

I have the same problem... I am running a Windows ME. My router is a DL-604 (D-Link)... Hope someone can help... It automatically disconnects me after 5 minutes...

d-link is one of the crappiest routers ever created. Sorry you got sucked into owning one. I again, have NO clue. Try the same local router address I posted above. It SHOULD take you to the routers build in web page. If it doesn't then toss it in the trash and spend 50 bucks on a linksys. 8)
