Hi everyone!

What a great place! I have recently started my flightsim life, and now for me the time has come to make things look more complete and more beautiful. Eventually I'd like to start making things, but first things first..spend time adding things is probably the best way to gain experience, and you can't fly without walking first....RIGHT !

Now,
I have added scenery for EHAM (Shiphol) by Victor Nauta, and found that on one of the runways (01L), there is a bunch of trees (from the old scenery) on the runway! Is there a way to chop them down?

Chainsaw...or try exclude files. Not a scenery designer but the last option seems to be in use a lot...

Thanks for the tip. :D ..am a sim rookie, not the first time i saw clocks and buttons.

But is it possible to exclude tree by tree? If yes...How? There is just a few on the end of the runway, but it is enough to do some wing-chopping.

Welcome aboard, mate. You seem to be the first freshman coming here for the very first time and not asking basic quetions like "How do I start Flight Simulator?", :) :D  , so you are one of the rare ones who did his homework. I appreciate that!

Now to your problem:

When scenery designers set up a new scenery from scratch, make ficional ones or do not agree with locations Microsoft suggested, they go to find a way to deactivate the default ones. I myself tried this with my local grass strip, but had to surrender with the same problem, because I'm not a scenery programmer and don't know how to flatten and exclude. That's what the pros do. So please try this:

Check the readme file contained in the add on. Is there any section under "Installation" that tells you to fill in some lines in the scenery.cfg file? Beginning with "Exclude?" That would be the only way around this problem. If not, we got two options:

One would be to contact the author. Possibly others already "complained" about the problem and he/she already developed a solution. The other solution is I could ask our Pros here, Groundsquirrel, for example. As he is one of those who is just very busy by setting up the Flight Sim Design University (FSDU) on the web, this might however take some time. But when FSDU is running, they are dealing with exactely such questions, too.

In any case it would be a help if you told us the exact name of the file (and where you downloaded it, if not at SurClaro) so that we could make some investigation.

The Rhythmosaur

Enjoy your stay here!

Update:

I just was able to get in contact with the pros at FSDU. One of our teachers, Mrs. Sonja Michelle, revealed the following alternative:

Once you got an account on Avsim, you will be able to download a program enabling you to flatten and exclude in sim (I hate to say in game).

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=41356

It contains a decent manual to tell you everything you need to know in order to get it working. BEFORE however, you need another one which is similar to FSUIPC, but kind of minor:

Thanks bro! :D I have looked into this scenery.cfg file, but could not find any exclude thingies. aparently sim sets up trees at random, because they moved, and the runway is clear of wood!
I do not know what made them move(maybe the chainsaw idea of Exxman), but still its nice to find out why, and to keep those "Tree beards" off.

I am looking forward to this university site, and defenately have a look on sunday.

When trees suddenly diasappear without installing something, most likely somebody reduced his graphics settings...

Hi,

i have also build a airfield with AFCAD.
The airport is fine, but STILL there are trees on the taxiway (not on runway).
I have tried the above programs, even the exclusion-tool.
But i dont find BGLComp.exe so it doenst work.

I have download everything, even from Microsoft the http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp-file.

But still, i cant remove trees. I am getting angry...

please explain how i could EASELY remove the trees (not using a chainsaw).

Check out this link... http://www.fs-traveler.com/flatten.shtml

It may lead you to the answers you require. Or, hang out for a bit and Rick will be along to help ya. Stick with it, you aren't too far off from completion...

I tried... but i failed!

The aera is flat, but there are still scenery on the taxiway's.
I have tried it at all possible ways.

Is there a scenery-remover? Its no problem if 100 km2 is empty. So i dont care its TO much removed.
But a tree on the middle of runway or taxiway is a bit stupid.

And a second question: how do i place some buildings on MY position?
I cant add them in AFCAD???
