Gonna buy a new pc soon.
There are three(!!) things i'm very confused about right now. One: what's the difference between soc 939 and the older ones besides that it's newer and more costy? Two: tha same thing between SATA and PATA... and for the third,
the same thing about nforce 3 and 4. Suggestions and answers please...?

Socket 939 processors come in two main flavors: the performance-rated AMD 64 3500+ and 3800+ processors, and the FX-53 processor. The main difference between these two is that the FX series has twice the cache of the 3500 or 3800 with 1MB of L2 cache. Another difference is the ability of the 939 to use non-ecc, non-registered RAM, as well as the addition of a second memory channel controller for a consumer 32bit chip.

Go with SATA as it will be the only format used due to PATA's retirement.

Nforce 4. Better pipeline management plus other added features. Make sure it supports SLI.

Hope that helps. Lots of info on the net if you really want to go hardcore.

You are not nosy...and about to become educated...don't ever aplogize for those things....okay? :)

SLI (Scan Line Interleaving) created by 3dfx six years ago was all about pure performance and higher resolutions. Back in them days, whoever had the fastest graphics solution won. The idea was that if you could add multiple 3D accelerators in one system you could speed up 3D rendering on that PC. 3dfx conquered this challenge by creating SLI or Scan Line Interleaving technology. SLI technology from 3dfx worked by having one card render the even number of lines on the screen while the other card worked on the odd number of lines. This basically "doubled" frame rate performance and allowed resolutions up to 1024x768. A generic term for 'its all better than before'.

Nvidia just took it on step further...so... go with that.

Hope that helps,
