|
|
ok im relatively new to FS and i practise everyday with various type of aircraft. my favourite is the 747 but i practise with the 757 and find it great to practise ILS Landings. ok now onto my problem with 747s...
I have read on a lot of articles in the forums that a typical landing speed of a 747 is around 160kts-180kts. I am having trouble setting up the 747 for that type of landing. I would be cruising at 35000 feet and start my descent when instructed to by the ATC. Im finding it hard to slow down the 747 when im descending. i usually cut the throttle to idle and put about 1500-1800 vertical speed for my descent. when i get under 10000 im usually over the 250kts limit. can i use speed brakes at this point to get it to 250kts?
also when the ATC tells me to "descend to 2500" i do the same 1500-1800 vertical speed limit and am usually at 2500 a bit before i have to tune to the tower. My issue is that when im reducing speed and adding flaps the 747 ALWAYS pitches up and either stalls and i always mess up!
can someone give me a required speed for the 1-30 flaps for the 747? i know weight is a typical issue here so can someone give me a general speed i normally fly 1-2 hours. also when do i start to add flap is it in the early stages of a descent or is only under 10000 feet that i use them. As i said earlier the 757 i add flaps to that when im at 195kts but because the 747 is a monster if i used those speed-flap settings the plane pitches up and then stalls.
Id appreciate any help at all as im learning new info every day from theses forums im trying so hard to land this.
cheers

| Did you try using the Kneeboard, and go to checklists, when using the 747 :) . Also is it the default 747, or is it an added one? |

| How about using flaps, and going by the kneeboard for speeds...also check if spoilers (speedbrakes) are left on...they shouldn't be..they should be ARMED after crossing the outer marker. |

| sorry again for the newbie question but what do u mean by armed? i know when im approaching an airport i press SHIFT+/ to arm the spoilers and they deploy on landing but do they deploy automatically at any other stage in flight? |

Armed spoilers means that they are (how shall I say) prepared to deploy...so the moment your aircraft touches the runway the spoilers will deploy and puch the aircraft down...thusly preventing it from bouncing off the runway and making the "slow down" procedure easier. In FS the command is
SHIFT + / or SHIFT + ? |

| ok great i have had a go at a small flight from Heathrow to Dublin (my local airport) in a 777 and it worked fine a perfect landing - i had another look at the reference guide in the checklist and it seemed to work great. i guess that just leaves the 747. thanks for your help :) |

| Check out the manual download page for instructions manual for the 747, here on Surclaro or Avsim. It does give you all the check list from start to finish. |
