I have an Athlon 64 3200+ with 1024 megs ram in an Asus K8N-E m/b.
Graphics is a GeForce FX5200 with 128megs. on a 19 inch crt monitor.

My problem is the quality of the display. The picture I receive can be likened to what you see on a hot hazy day. Even from 1000 feet ground detail is very poor.
I am blaming my graphics card, but that is only a guess.
I notice that my fps is LOCKED at 20, but usualy it is down to 14/17. I can not find any way to "unlock" the fps. Is this locked by the program or by my computer?
My monitor is running at 1152 x 864 , 32 bit color , and 85 refresh rate.
I do not have any other games so I don't know if graphics are the fault of the comp or the software.
Should I replace my graphics card? It gives no problem with anything else? Or is there anything else I can do?

Well to unlock your fps meter, go to settings / hardware, and you will see it clearly. But there really is no point. Since your eyes can only see what, like 20 fps or so, there is no need to go any higher. It will just stress your PC more. As for the Card, is it even being displayed? Im not an expert on Geforce cards, but I had a similar prob with an ATI card. . .

Thank you. Guess I'm just dumb.

fps now set at 80 but it is only displaying 22 fps.
And display is still very poor.

You can change all the settings you want in FS but that FX5200 has got to go. It's one of the lower end cards for graphics.

Shop around...great deals to be had.

switch to a GeForce 4 or 6600GT and watch the diff. You have a really good system there to run those cards with all settings maxxed out. No reason why it shouldn't be as real as it can get. The FX card will never get you close. Too slow of a RAMDAC and the pipelines are too few and small for fast data transfer.

Too bad you can't go PCIx. They are cheaper than high end AGP cards and much better for quality and performance...

Hope that helps.

don't recall your shots RD...gotta link? Sorry mate, got a good memory, just doesn't last that long. ;)

Yeah, thats pretty high for FPS on a 5200..depends on what other addons you are running and what res you got it at. 5200 max res is 1200x1024x32 so it's not really pushing high res but ya...might be another problem but with a 3000AMD pushing it along....should perform way better. FPS of 40+ easy should be achieved with tons of eye candy to boot.

I now have a Raedon 9800 pro card, AND my graphics are exactly the same.
