I've got a question, just curious. I've got the ATI/Radeon 9200/256MB graphics card installed on my computer. I've tried various settings for anti-aliasing, and I still cannot get my "jaggies" to go away completely. :? I have the pentium 4 1.8ghz processor, and 768MB of ram. No, it's not a "HIGH END" computer, by any means, but I was just curious if anyone had a suggestion. Petty matter, I know, but I feel the card should perform better, and I've run out of adjustments......

Well, my graphics card is capable of displaying resolutions far above and beyond the capability of my CRT monitor, so I don't think that's the problem :) Thank you, though :D

On my machine that was running the 9200, I had "tansform and lighting" on, "render to texture" on and anti aliasing off. Then mip maps were set to 4 and hardware rendered lights set to 6. I am with the 9600xt now so things are a bit hotter, but try those settings within FS using one of the 32 bit resolutions and let us know.

Ok, I tried that, and there were no differences in the anti-aliasing effectiveness. The default a/c textures were almost unrecognizable, and it was generally a disaster. 8O Could it be the processor chip? I'm trying to convince myself I have a reason to upgrade.....

give a quickie rundown on your machine specs. I was using an Athlon xp1800+ with an ATI Radeon 9200 and while the graphics werent stellar, they were clean and quite acceptable. Have you been to the manufacturers website and checked on latest drivers? You have to read carefully, the newest drivers are not always the best, double check the issues that are resolved with the drivers listed.

Ok, machine specs=Pentium 4 1.8ghz processor, 768MB RAM, 20GB hardrive, and of course the 9200..... I went to the website and I did find a newer version of drivers that I could download, but I didn't find anything regarding issues with FS9..... Should I download those drivers? As I said before, it's nothing major, and I appreciate your help. I was only curious as to why the anti-aliasing isn't as smooth on my system as I've seen from other graphics cards that cost less..... :)

Its not just the gfx card B-man but also your monitor that counts. What res have you got your monitor at?

Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering is what smoothes everything out...mip settings give a sense of depth and actually enhance jaggies if A/A is sub par. The alogrithms go all hoopie when trying to get FS mips up too high resulting in the moving marquee effect in FS along certain lines.

Try the max setting for res on your monitor at the highest refresh rate you can go. Then try setting the refresh low with the highest rate. Take s/s of each with a stationary object so you can compare stills. Other than that, try a sys test here...

http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp . Not the best test but gives you an idea as to how your sys performs with others. Oh, and try the new drivers. If they don't work you can always roll back.

Ok, exxman, I'll try the link. :) My resolution is set at 1280x960, the same as my shots. I'll try the other suggestions also with the monitor, and see what happens..... :D Thanks guys for your replies and help, much appreciated, and I'm learning a bit also.

what bit depth Bman...16 or 32? ie. 1024x768x32?? Try max res.

That makes a lot of diff...

It's set to 1280x960x32, and the refresh rate is 85hz. That's the limit on the refresh rate, and if I increase the resolution, the monitor appears to flicker (for lack of a better word). I'll try the drivers, and see if it makes any difference. :)

Anti-Aliasing is kind of a luxury...one that a 9200 won't afford.

You'd be best to turn it off and get some FPS back...upgrade that card and try again.

Just a thought. I don't see it mentioned here. Make sure that you are not using the AA option in the FS9 display/hardware settings. It pretty much stinks. Set the AA, AT, etc. settings in your vid card configuration utility instead.

Thanks so much guys for your belated replies to my original post.... I have since solved the problem with my anti-aliasing to the limits of my modest cpu. I use the anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering settings on my gfx card only. No, the 9200 isn't the high end gfx card I would love to have, but it's doing the job for now, and I'll hold out for the right time to upgrade. I won't be upgrading the gfx card only..... Once again, thanks for your advice. :D [/quote]

Hello everyone again,

I bought a new video card, the Visiontek Xtasy ATI Radeon 9250. I went to the website and downloaded the latest drivers. I bumped up the anistrophic filtering to 16X and anti-aliasing to about 1X. However, jaggies are still not completely gone (this probem similar to b777's however resolution is not problem). What is wrong?

My resolution: 1024x768x32 (maximum)

I have:
--Windows XP pro installed on 20GB hard drive (FS9 installed on 80 GB hard drive)
--Visiontek Xtasy ATI Radeon 9250 128 MB
--384 MB RAM

And yes, DirectX 9.0c is installed.

BTW if I bump the A/F and A/A all the way up to its max, then jaggies are terrible. I don't know why this happens.

Thanks.
