Hi
im currently having a lot of trouble with this checkride. My issue is at the start when you have to level off at 2000ft with 100 knots. I CANNOT seem to trim the Cessna to do this. I use the CH Flight Yoke and i always seem to gain altitute and speed! Ive read about trimming and know how to trim (kinda! ) but i just cant seem to get the required trim for this checkride as you need to trim very quickly. Does anyone know of a link to a tutorial for this checkride or know any advice for getting this certificate? I ask as im with a virtual airline and its a requirement to progress through the ranks.
Many thanks

Basic: Unfortunatly there isnt a tutorial for that as it is the basic thing, and the only way to do it is to practice...if you have a yoke, be sure to keep one had on the wheel (your left nand), and your thumb on the trim if you have it binded to the buttons on it, and keep your right hand on the throttle. So, before pulling up, add a little throttle, and before pushing the nose down reduce throttle. That might help you mainthin altitude within limistos of +/- 500 ft...now, in order to trim the aircraft, you must first determine whether you need a positive trim or a negative one, nose up or nose down...there is no special brain to this part...smiply lower the force you push or pull the yoke and see where the planes goes, up or down. Then level it off again and start trimming by clicking on the appropriate button, and slowly letting go of the yoke...in about 30 seconds you will be able to let go od the yoke and the plane will fly on itself without autopilot and you will havea huge grin on your face.
Advanced: for the small adjustments the airplane does it on it's own..so the tail generates a certain force and it maintains the nose where its supposed to be. Then it starts to go up a little, the speed drops a little, the lift made by the tail is smaller and the nose drops...as it drops it will start to descend and the speed will arise again, and it will again put the nose up a little....and so the airplane will always make small oscilations from going up and down..but they are supposed to be s small you aren't even supposed to see it or feel it. About 2-3 feet in both directions from the asigned altitude.
Hope I didn't get you too confused.

Just a note when trying to maintain altitude and airspeed use attitude adjustments for airspeed and power adjustments for altitude
this probably sounds ass backwards but when you do things this way life is MUCH smoother and there are not crazy occilations as you chase stuff |

thanks for the replies!
ive had another few attempts at it with no luck  bascially i can get the cessna to level off at 2000ft but my airspeed as always above 100kts and i fail. if i reduce throttle she says to increase throttle!
ok say for example im climbing to 2000ft i reach 1900 what i do is push forward on the yoke to level off and then i use trim to try and stabilise the plane. i can achieve level flight but at about 120kts! i guess i just need to practice trimming at different altitudes and speed. |

hmm is 120 kts not normal then? Well you COULD fly slower, but 120 is not a killer. Look at the airspeed indicator, the "yellow" zone starts at 140!
Just a few questions and notes now:
Check that your autopilot is OFF
how much do you reduce throttle?
What fs do you use?
And last, but not least, you can always fly with an untrimmed aircraft... |

Ya thats true, the checkride has got a kind of maximum 10% variation from the assigned altitude, heading and speed. I nearly lost my patience, shut my system in a fit, when i was unable to pass.
The messages are too vague and dont define the exact problem.
I have started using one trick that tends to help me a bit. I reduce the clock speed to around 1/2x. This helps to make a kind of less up down, or left right movements. It has not helped me too much, because when i make the 360 degrees turn, invariably the altitude falls to around 1600 - 1800 or shoots of 2200 or 2300. I just get frustrated then. But the clock slowing down is helping, try and see if this helps.
I use the keyboard and now even started keeping note of how many times i have pressed the down key (to take nose up) or up arrow key, or left arrow etc .. this helps me to fly on the correct and necessary path for a little longer time if not till the end.

| All the checkrides on FS are way too stricked. And when I took my PPL and commercial checkride, It was not as stricked as you may think. It also depends on the examiner. In a real life checkride they do give you room for error. |

| I have one problem and one problem only with the checkride! And that is steep turns! As far as the examiner on flight sim telling you what to do, well there's a cold hard truth to that: The examiner that's watching you isn't 100% accurate. I figured this out after doing exactly what it told me to without it telling me I was doing anything wrong, then all of a sudden "I'm sorry, we'll have to fly this checkride again.". Also, the introductory flight on there told me I was doing doing everything right on the approach, until I noticed I was directly over the airport. :?: What is this :?: Is what I thought to myself as I just let it do what it asked me to until a found a tree.....the hard way. :( Sometimes the in'game examiner doesn't watch your every move and can some time take extra time to "catch up" with your actions. Let's say you did exactly what it told you to, said "Good job!" then it says, "You're to high, descend. Slow down, reduce throttle. You're on the wrong heading. Turn to heading 280." and all kinds of other stuff it starts telling you you're doing wrong right after you just got everything right. Don't stress yourself over the checkride. It can be a little nerve-racking. If anyone does or does not experience what I have described, please mention. |

| Yeah I know this is an old one. I'm sorry, but I just had to say I passed the Private Pilot checkride and got my Flight Sim license! |
