This post is a follow on to a conversation that was started in another post here in the "Lessons Forum". Rather than go completely off topic in that thread about an available function in FSNav, I posted this info here.
I had asked another member...
ricktobin wrote: Wheelright...you do know what that little arrow in front of the A/C icon is for in FSNav right?
He replied:

You mean the one for altitude and airspeed at the top of the frame? If so, yes...
No, not that arrow...
This is about the arrow I mentioned. It only appears on the FSNav map when you are climbing or descending and shows an approximate location of where you'll be when you reach your selected altitude. It's definately a huge help in planning your decent rate.
In the pics below I was enroute to KSTL following the Instrument Approach Procedures for ILS RWY 30R.
Approach Chart available here:
Cross:
TYRSH @ 4500'
EXALE @ 3500'
RELEY @ 2100'
RWY30R
PIC #1: In the first pic you can see the arrow in the blue border. This is the arrow I was talking about in the earlier post. As it sits right now in pic #1, I'd cross ISEC TYRSH well above 4500'.
PIC #2: Adjusting the VSI to a higher decent rate brings the arrow closer to ISEC TYRSH which will put me just over 4500' at that point.
PIC #3: You can barely see the arrow in this pic because it's right on another map marker, but again, adjusting the VSI a small bit more puts the marker right on TYRSH and puts my altitude at that point just under 4500'. |

Thats what I love about FSNav...
Plus it allows you to import/export data into the FMC of PMDG, Level D and other systems. A must have really.
Good tips Rick. Again, your attention to detail leaves no doubts.

Rick,
Thanks for the tip :)
No, I hadn't used it before, relying instead on the EOC and BOD marked along the planned flight track. To be honest, I have seen it but never investigated it's purpose.
There's so much in this program. Exx is correct, it's a must have. |
