Here is a fun little challenge for anyone looking to spice up a flight.
Download and load up the program FS Passangers (limited demo until you buy it. Everything works but you are limited to taking off from only KSFO...land anywhere you want though).
Activate the Dangerous Airports feature.
Set your take off point from KSFO, and land at KCCR (5 minute flight...or so)
I recommend a multi engine aircraft. C-130's, C-5's and the such are perfect.
Try and land.
I started out with a C-130, loaded to the max with cargo, and 8 technicians aboard.
On my approach into KCCR, I had dropped my gear, loaded my flaps to full, and set my proper approach speeds for the glideslope.
Then all hell broke loose.
I took .50 Cal rounds in my inside port engine (engine 2). I shut it down, cut the fuel to that engine and not a moment later I took a hit to my left fuel tank, leaking heavily.
I continued on the approach, and at 3 miles out I took a glancing RPG hit which sent shrapnel into my outer Starboard Engine (engine 4), Right fuel tank and damaged my Hydraulics. I quickly shut down #4 in fear of fire (which can happen with FS Passangers).
I switched over to my backup hydraulics and started calling in a MAYDAY (the program lets you do that!). I still had two engines, and plently of airspeed but I was worried about losing another engine.
I took a hit to my cockpit by small arms fire, which wounded me in the right leg, blew out a window (under 1400 feet so I wasn't worried to much) and killed my electrical systems. All I had was my airspeed indicator, my artificial horizion (which took a hit of small arms fire moments later), and my Engine gauges (all my anolog guages still functioned). My radio stack was dead.
I took another RPG hit in the starboard midships, opening a hole in my A/C's cargo hold.
I was less than a mile from landing when my outside port engine was hit by small arms fire and I started losing oil pressure.
I knew I couldn't land on one engine so I just pushed that damaged engine for the last 1/2 mile. She blew out just as I crossed over the fence at the end of the runway. I shut it down, and readjusted my trim, fast.
Thankfully, I was able to land without crashing.
That really get's the heart pumping, hearing the small arms fire, large caliber weapons, RPG's, and anti-aircraft missles fired at you...or hitting you.
one hell of a ride! |
