Hey everybody...

I've got a little problem with my new created airport. With AFCAD (ans FS slew-mode) I've located a great spot for my new airport, but when I start FS beginning at the new airport, I see trees coming through my runway, and if I should expand my airport the trees would probably coming throug my taxiways also....

And another thing, if I'm about to take off, Spot View, it looks like the runway is a little bit ABOVE the ground-section of the scenery, although I've checked the altitude properly with FS slew-mode..... 106,3 ft altitude.... Could it be that it isn't really matching, so the airport-altitude should be slightly less than 106,3 ft ???

I hope someone have a answer for these two questions....

Well, I suppose your using FS9(2004). I think you may either change location of airport, move the runway, or get a sceney editor and delete the trees. I can't name any scenery editors because I just fly in the FS9.

Hi, Vlieg...

I also use FS9/AFCAD2. Since I am not up to speed into techniques for flatening and excluding, I do the following to build a new airport: Once the general site is selected, I search the entire site area for a flat stretch long and wide enough for my planed airfield that is also free of trees, shrubs or other scenery items. Nest, to determine elevation, remember the following: Your airplane's altimeter is ABOVE the surface. To find how much for that specific A/C, go to an airport with a (FS9) KNOWN elevation, move the a/c to the airfield location co-ordinates and subtract the known airfield elevation from the elevation indicated on the altimeter. Use shift+X to get a precise altimeter reading. Vola! Simple, but a lot of "leg" work, not unlike low-budget real-life projects of the same kind. Until FS allows sloping runways, the entire airfield area will need to be VERY close to the same elevation. I've found that up to 0.4 feet total diference from reference to LOWER spot elevations will work (EXCEPT ON RUNWAYS), though it will be bumpy - go slow.

*beep*

Hmm, well... iI just have read in another Topic that there are two programms for this flattening-job, excbuilderv2 and Area16.... Area16 doesn't work really, but I can't find excbuilderv2 at AVSIM.com..... It should be there...?

Does anyone knows where to find? Or what could go wrong with Area16?

Hm, I've found excbuilderv2 at AVSIM.com after all.... :oops:

Okay, I FINALLY did it; I created a large square with the flatten and exclude-tools by editing the scenery.cfg file....

But I wanted to do this, so I could nicely create my own Airport at that location, BUT..... Now I've constucted the airport (in the beginning very, very simple, like one runway, that's all) but noting was displayed.

I was thinking and thinking, how come!! But I think I understand: The exclusion syntax ALSO excludes airports !!!! :twisted: :twisted:
What to do now? I wanted an airport, but the problem was that there were coming trees out of the runway, that problem could be fixed with the exclusion-syntax, but that syntax also deletes any airport.....

Who can help me, (I might be some dumb noob, I know, sorry for that...)

Eh, hello..?! Can anyone help me?

The problem is:

I wanted to create an airport for my own. The location was not flat, and there were trees and other scenery.

With editing the scenery.cfg - file I flattened the surface, and with the Exclude-command I excluded the scenery-things, like trees and the buildings..

Then I started to create my very own airport, and I wanted to test it, and ... WHOOPS..... there was nothing !! The Exclude-syntax ALSO excludes my airport??!?!?!?!?!?!??!!

How can I fix this stupid paradoxial problem?
Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Paul

I am not sure that the Exclude syntax can exclude afcad made airports....have you double checked the location? When you started a new airport, what did you type in as the Location coordinates? Did you know that when you have FS started, AFCAD connects to FS and you will have a red cross somewhere on the AFCAD window representing aircraft position?

Maybe that helps?

Well, as I know, everything I did was coorect.....?!?!

The location I've chosen with AFCAD is in the very middle of my flattened/excluded surface... so the whole terrain around it is AND flattened AND excluded from other scenery-things. The problem is that that exclude-thing ALSO excludes my airport, so that this airport is going to be deleted because of my exclude-syntax.,.......... !!!!!!!!!

I need the exclude syntax, because otherwise there are trees (and other scenery-stuff) coming up throug my runway and so,... --> CRASH :P

Adios

have you tried that excluder that you mentioned in another topic....excl{something}2 was the filename....I used that on my project, and it worked for me, it got rid of all the trees, and the afcad and gmax built buildings remain.....

U mean excbuilderv2 ??? With that tool you did it?

Hmm, well, I'll give it a try then... !

Can you tell me how you did it exactly, so that the AFCAD things (and GMAX, although I don't use Gmax yet) remain.. ?

well first of all, I had FS loaded and the flight loaded (aircraft placed where I needed excluding) and I had FSConnect (freeware, google for it), so I placed the aircraft in the two corners that I wanted to exclude, and I clciked on "all" for exclusion options....then I made the BGLs (I made a few squares like that) and I placed them in FS Addon Scenery folder....and that's all. Then I used AFCAD to make the runway and the apron and so on....and I also had that in FS Addon scenery (AF2_ICAO.bgl) and that's it...

All objects are separate bgl's for now, but I will merge them all into one BGL for simplicity.....

Is FSConnect the same sort of tool like FSUIPC ?? (So that I can combine AFCAD with FS9 (some kind of lock) ) Then I see a red crosshair at the window (AFCAD). Or is FSConnect something else?

Well, I think I better show what I've done, maybe you readers can help me out...:

The scenery file is like:

[Area.038]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=Addon Scenery
Layer=38
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Remote=

[Area.039]
Title=Static Objects Library
Local=Addon Scenery\Static Objects Library
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=39

[Area.040]
Title=NaastApeldoorn
Local=Scenery\EURW
Active=TRUE
Layer=40
Flatten.0=56.4,N52 17.81,E5 43.58,N52 17.81,E5 50.41,N52 12.93,E5 50.41,N52 12.93,E5 43.58
Exclude=N52 17.81,E5 43.58,N52 12.93,E5 50.41,objects

Apeldoorn is the location, a city in the Netherlands.

Do I have to put Flatten and Exclude in the same layer, like above, or more like this:

[Area.040]
Title=NaastApeldoorn
Local=Scenery\EURW
Active=TRUE
Layer=40
Flatten.0=56.4,N52 17.81,E5 43.58,N52 17.81,E5 50.41,N52 12.93,E5 50.41,N52 12.93,E5 43.58

[Area.041]
Title=NaastApeldoorn2
Local=Scenery\EURW
Active=TRUE
Layer=41
Exclude=N52 17.81,E5 43.58,N52 12.93,E5 50.41,objects

Okay, I'm looking forward to some advice :P 8) 8)
