Does anybody know a link for a good bugfix concerning the bad contrails in FS 2004 ?
Thanks in advance,

What do you mean by "bad contrails"? There are a couple of common occurences that are often reported. One of my faves is the one that hit me, the infamous "split contrails" where one stream is correct and another stream splits off and curves down to the ground. The really neat effect of it is when AI traffic passes nearby while you are on the ground and see the contrail that went to the ground go by like a thin white tornado. The cause for this problem is that the original .fx file has been overwritten by an old .fx file from an earlier version of FS. This subject has been covered quite extensively here at Surclaro forums.

Well, thank you for your comment. In fact, I meant the shape of the double contrails, where one of them splits off and goes to the ground like a bow, as you discribed it, grundsqirrel. I hate this and I think, this is not "as real as it gets"...
If I understand you correctly, the problem will derive from effects files which are delivered with add-on aircrafts (because I did not have an old version of FS on my system). Will it be solved, if I look up the date of the files and delete everything older than January, 2004 ? Are there special files known that make this kind of problem?
Greetings,

| Well, I tried to figure that one out too, but alas, after I had already repaired my folder. So, after I had fixed them, I just answer no to any contrail overwrites. The only exception I make is for unique contrail files that are named to a particular aircraft, not default. I am not certain where the fx file is on the disk set, but I do believe that there are a couple of folks around who might. |
