WOW, HUGE PROBLEM.

I select all that I normally select, and fly. No problem. But for some reason of flying 2 min to 10 min, it just freezes. Flight stops, but still have sound. I hit ESC, and the system goes black. I get a box for Direct X diagnostics. I hit no. I have the most recent, so I know I am good there. Then I get the Microsoft box to know if I want to send a report. Well the first couple of times I checked the " see report ". I saw that it said it was a fatal error with * gaugesound.dll * I tried playing another 3 flights. All crashed/froze. All with the same fatal report * gaugesound.dll *

I deleted (recycle bin) the gaugesound.dll. I went through the same pickings as always. Click fly now, and it shuts off. No flight whatsoever.

I recover gaugesound.dll and I can fly again, for a couple minutes, and freezes/crashes. This time I sent a report. It also said on the site that I should get the update. I haven't gotten it since it said it may not help. Also because I have heard of people having problems with it when they got it.

Sorry so long, just trying to be as specific as possible and so you know all the details. More info is better than none.

Thanx, I hope somebody can help here. This sucks !!!

The update shouldn't cause you any problems Ardie...give it a go. Sounds like you have an a/c or scenery/airport file that is causing this problem. Are you running stock setup or have you got addons installed as well?

Hey Exx,

Sorry late getting back to you. I tried the patch. Everything works fine, including my problem. Still there

However, I tried flying my f-14 ( and this is the only a/c I am having this problem with, with the gaugesound.dll error. I have NO problems with any other d/l a/c ) and I happened to pause and see about a s/s. WHOA NELLY, I am, for some reason on that flight, having ?fireworks? behind me ???? See attachments below. I got out of FS9 and restarted. Didn't do it again. I checked all my f-14 cfg files, and they looked normal. I checked my effects file, since these are my making for afterburners, and nothing abnormal there either.

I am going to remove everything I can find associated with the F-14's I have d/l. And d/l another copy of the same. Shouldn't be a problem should it ??? I love my F-14's, gotta have them. But if it is causing all these problems, I can live with out them :(

Odd looking effect, but that is just an effect not a sound. How long has it been since you've checked for updated sound drivers? Since gaugesound.dll is a native file for Fs9, I dont quite understand why just the one aircraft would have a problem. I have Dino Cattaneo's F-14 with the "sef14....." panel in it and run with no problems at all.

GS,

I know it is an effect, but from what?

I got all new drivers for everything when I got the new card and motherboard. I am flying the same f-14 you have, awesome planes. But it is the only a/c I am having this problem with.

Thanks man,

Hey rd!

I have a similar problem as you. if you dont mind me asking, how old is your computer, what is the system qualities (type of graphics card etc.), and do you have any other LARGE programs on your computer. these are major factors with how your computer responds to your commands.

my computer is VVVEEERRRRYYYY touchy with this game.i have a five year old computer, and it has started to run slow. i mean it runs slower than a snail trying to retrieve the mail on a monday! it will run normally for 'bout 5ive minutes, then the screen will freeze, and the sound will make this "dddddddddddddddddd" sound. quite frankly it bugs the HAIL out of me, especially during landings.

the only thing my computer dont do (except on RARE occasions) is crash.

just post your system stats. so i can tell you what the prob might be.

hope this helps!

King_Air,

Thanks for trying to help. But my system is less than 2 yrs old. I just replaced the motherboard and g-card. G-card fried and in turn fried the motherboard. I know this isn't the problem. I deleted my f-14's , as that is the only a/c that had this problem.

if it still the sound file... go into FS9 DLL folder and trash it... then go and look on your Install disk's and find the DLL to replace it. this work for me alot.

Are you using any effects addon packages such as crashbak, or selectFX or anything like that? Think maybe you inadvertantly changed it? You're not messing with us are you?

GS,

I am surprised/saddened by the last comment. I can find better things/ideas to make you play games with.

I do have select fx, but not crashbak.

I did delete the a/c folder for my f-14's. Now in the process of getting into the zip files, so I can delete all other actions/effects that came with it. I intend to do a fresh d/l of the same a/c and see what happens.

People, don't make suggestions unless you have read from the beginning post. I only have/had, this problem with the F-14. NOTHING ELSE, ALL OTHER A/C's ARE PERFECT!!! SORRY IF I SOUND RUDE, BUT THIS IS KILLING ME!!!

GS, should I uninstall select fx and reinstall it ??? Or finish what I intended on doing and see what happens ???

Thanks for ANY and ALL help

dont be surprised/saddened, it was of course a tongue in cheek statement meant as an illustration of my earnestness to leave no stone unturned in true auto mechanic fashion. You've been cruising the forums for a while, tell me, how many times do we catch ourselves on the simplist little things while all the while imagining the OS is going nova on us? So, I am sorry to be so blunt, but even at work I get an occasional vehicle owner that could swear they just filled up two days ago and just cant understand how it could be out of gas...the gauge must be broke...they couldnt possibly be out of gas. I dontn think you have to uninstall anything in point of fact. Simply reinstall the bird to its current location and allow necessary overwrites, then check it out. I use the effects generators myself, and was caught off guard not realizing that it makes permanent overwrites of the .cfg files for the selected aircraft, and they must be written back to delete the effect from being called up by that aircraft.

Sorry GS, I also know the scheme of lame things. Customer " It didn't grind yesterday" Me "Sorry Sir, but you HAD to of heard something. The rotors are ground all the way to the cooling vanes!!! " I know what you mean. :D :D

Well, actually I did a shortcut, and believe it or not, it was what you just suggested. Anywho, I started my flight, hit lights, got some gray, like start up smoke. OK, going ok so far. Then the gray got denser and denser, and depending on the angle of view, it was bright white. I could only see from the rear (I fly in spot view) and saw what looked gray start up smoke. So I roll down the runway and looked at the view from the nose back. HEELLLLOOOOOOOO I have what I believe are a fireworks fx coming after the STOCK afterburners. I decided to turn off the lights, and the " fireworks " stopped. Disappeared. Leaving the lights off, I could fly normally. Meaning no crash or freeze up.

OK, then. I know I have a problem with my lights in the cfg. But they look fine. I double checked what I could in the effects files. I am thinking of deleting the select fx and any fireworks fx files I find.

What do you think ???

I love my f-14's and this is killing me.

thanks man

That's partly why I suggested just installing the 'cat again. Now, you may not have to totally reinstall the aircraft, especially if you have it tuned a particular way, such as panel or sound. So, download it, then just cut and paste the lights section of the aircraft.cfg and copy the fx files from the download allowing overwrites and in theory that should repair it.

Well, it goes deeper than I thought

I took out all f-14 files, folders, fx, etc. Flew some other flights, all is good. I decided I was going to fly from a carrier. I know what the hell I am doing on a carrier and how it works. But for the first time EVER. When I hit my brake to cat launch, it freezed/locked up. Did it 3 out of 3 times. ERROR report. *gaugesound.dll *

I am sick of this. I am going to go over the edge and uninstall everything concerning fs9/fs2004. This includes all folders that I saved all my a/c, scenery, etc into on my documents file. Everything including zip files.
And do a virgin install.

Thanks for trying to help. If this doesn't do it, I quit!!!

make sure that GaugeSound.dll is in your main FS folder. If it's not there, put it back.
