| go for the fastest processor you can afford, here, faster is better. Same goes for the video in this instance, the higher onboard memory is a plus. Whatever you do, get a bigger power supply, on todays gamers I would never run less than a 420w. A well ventilated case helps too, dont waste money on gee gaws, put it in the performance. |

Honestly, my choices would be as follows. Now mind you, this is a little more than the Bang for Buck way. With reasons why.
AMD 3700+ : Speed is VERY important for FS9
EVGA 6600GT : It is aprx $100+ cheaper than the 6800GT 256. To be honest, you probably won't notice the difference in performance, detail, as some that know what to look for or at would notice spending the extra $$. If you have 1 g RAM, that will pick up on the cards memory that is built in. Also, ONLY the EVGA cards come with a lifetime warranty if you get it with out any bonuses, such as games. Get it as a stand-alone.
POWER SUPPLY: 420 W - 450 W Not knowing what else you have or might get later. I would go personally with 450W.
Everything else looks fine, HD, MB.
Good Luck, alot/too many options out there that are good and as many that are bad.

| You could go over to Fry's and get a Pentium 4 thats like 3 or 4 Ghz, but the prices are only good on like holidays and stuff... also, even though I have one, many people don't prefer NVIDIA for the FS9. Of course, its not bad if you get one, just get a good driver. Also, just a little tip. If you are going to build such a fast computer, find an excellent place that wont gethot easily... because fast computers are like heaters. Good for the winter, terrible for the summer... |

Tropicalfish,
You obviously have no clue what you are talking about.

You have been leaving alot of comments in the forums. Not really helping anybody at all on thier questions or problems. It is as if you just want to add your 2 cents to a post, and leave it at that.
I don't mean to sound rude, but I want to read somebodys posts to learn something, not read it just to read it. As I am with yours.

Richy, go for a dual core man. Later on when you got a couple of extra $$, you can add a second processor and really go high end! Cheaper than HT Pentiums and waaaaaaay faster too. Should be good for most high end games for quite a while. Go with the higher end Nvidia as well. Most benchmarks are putting the 6800/7800/Quadro cards well above Ati's offerings and are becoming the norm for gamers.

Hey thanks again guys! Well here is the story. My Son and girlfriend came home fron Asia after a 3 yr stint in Taiwan. I thought they were here to stay BUT off they go again to Korea now. I tossed him 5K to make things easy for them (spoiled BEEP). Love them to death!! SO my new computer is on hold for a month or so.. Enough of the drivel....... EXX..A dual core has 2 processors on the same chip already does it not?
I am going with the 6800gt and before the GPU is no longer available buy another and run them in SLI. Hmmmm. dual core man they are so expensive in comparison to the 3500+. I never really considered that option much. Must rethink that though. I have decided on a DFI mainboard and a 250MB SATA II harddrive. I was reading on another site that the 24in. Dell widescreen 1900x1200 is an awesome piece. any thought on that? Anyways I AM going to go big for a change instead of just so so hoping this will do for 3-4 years. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks again! |

Yeah, dual core runs on the same chip but the kicker is if you have a 64 bit compatible board with a 939 socket...you are good to go. No need to change anything. I'd stay away from SLI, FS doesn't support it and it is quite expensive. Go with the higher end GPU's out now and save your $$. Buy an Athlon 3500 that is x2 and later on you can add the second CPU. That's the beauty of it all, you don't have to go buying new mobo's or socket adapters to run dual core. AMD really thought that one thru!
I have seen the Dell widescreen in action...meh. The model I saw was the 2405FPW Flat Panel. Not for me, the res wasn't up to snuff, but I'm looking for a screen for video editing - not gaming. Up to you. I can't stand Dell's lack of support for their products. Remind me of Best Buy but whatever works for you.

I will defininately check out the dual core. I think I understand what you are saying. ...You can have 2 - X2 processors on the mainboard? In any event I will talk to my computer people about this..
About the panel...I think I will do a little more investigating..... I agree with your comments about Dell,s support, I KNOW Dell's support is PATHETIC.. silly me ...How quickly one forgets. I logged over 100 hours on hold with their support, customer servive and so called supervisors but I DID NOT go away. They danced and danced bumped me from here to there, made me explain everything over and over everytime. Long story but they ended up sending me a refurbished thing that has never run correctly from day 1 and get this, the tag was registered to someone in the US under a different name...unbelivable....They quickly changed that tag id..enough about that ...arghh..still makes me boil..
Thanks Again |

RD WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!????!!! WHO SAID MY FORUMS COMMENTS DONT DO ANYTHING? I AM SUGGESTING ON HOW THE PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED... OR WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO... AND THE THING "MANY PEOPLE DON'T PREFER NVIDIA FOR FS9 IS FROM SOMEONE ELSE, NOT ME...
Edit by Exx: STOP TYPING IN CAPS! Last warning. What Ardie is saying is for you to think before you speak. A common trait here... |

I can show you a list of *one liners* that you have posted, not one of them giving any information to help or guide them.
That is all, done.

Well, if my and some of my buddies who are ATI fans number more than 3, then does that count as "many people"? The fact is, Nvidia is currently preferred, although not exclusively, for most MS titles. Us braver souls with a little more lattitude for destruction tend to gravitate towards ATI's for reasons currently beyond your technical level. Remember, some of us that share will not share all for various reasons.

| I agree that you should upgrade your power supply. I have a 7800 card that requires a minimum of 450W and I had 450W and i threw it out 3 days ago, because i smelled burning plastic. got a new 550W that should arrive soon. I believe the 6800 needs 350W u should upgrade the PS. |
