Tried to turn on pc yesterday and nothing. I mean NOTHING. I have installed ram and graphics cards on my own, but am no techy. I can replace the power supply np, if I knew for sure if that was the prob. Any help as what else could cause this? Any place I have called will charge more than the part just to verify the problem.
I have a P4 and heard they will shut down the power to avoid being fried, but this happened the next day after the pc had been off for hours.
I need my pc back and I know some peeps here know more than these guys at these "fix it" depts do.
I have a 3 year old pentium based pc. My power switch is wired to the mb first so i am worried just testing the power supply myself will not eliminate other causes.
Any help, suggestions, donations will be very much appreciated.

Hey man,

How old is your battery on the mother board??? That pesky little devil will/can wreak havock on your computer. I would try replacing that first, from what I am reading on your problem. If that doesn't do it, let us know. Otherwise, it could very well be your power supply causing the problems.

Four causes for your problem:

1. Power supply and/or fuse is burnt. RE&RE (remove and replace)
2. Power cord is a dud. RE&RE
3. Power switch is fried. RE&RE
4. Power is out at receptacle. Check and reset.

CMOS batter going out will allow some PC's to boot, you will get a checksum error if that is the case. Other than that, check items 1-4 and take it from there. PSU's aren't that expensive so replacing that should be a good option anyways as you should have a decent power supply to begin with (500W min). Shout back if you need more help.
