| In FS2002 - when I choose the Hawaii eruption flight, nothing is erupting on the island. Is this a bug? :( |

| Probably not, it's just quite hard to find (it took me about an hour of constant searching  !), but it might be your graphics settings. |

Read this somewhere on MS site:
"keep flying your current heading - the volcano is a bit further ahead and you cannot see it from the starting position"

Try flying 294 degrees. You'll fly awhile, going between two mountains. The one on your right is the one. Get close and near the top. Try facing the mountain. You'll finally see some rocks falling down the sides.
It's not very impressive.
Do you want to see a good eruption? PM me. I'll send you Etna.zip Take off from Palermo or somewhere else close by Sicilly and gain a bunch of altitude. Mt. Etna is the big mountain on the NNE side of teh island. There's an airport down at the base on the East side. Fly close to the top and right at it. when you are fairly close it takes about 20 seconds for the effect to start and it lasts for about 20 to 30 seconds. Tons of explosive fire out the top!!!
This is virus free. All my e-mail gets scanned incoming and outgoing. PM me and I'll even give you whatever you want to know about me (except my bank number  ) so if you have virus problems from this you'll know where to go to beat the snot out of me! :P
Here's a trick I learned from Microsoft- it sometimes helps to get rid of some glitches that occur in this massive program....
Delete your FS.config file. [NOT THE SCENERY CONFIG FILE!!!] Then restart FS2k2. Some say to reboot then restart FS2k2. Try it either way. FS will rebuild the config file.
This sounds like I'm throwing you a curve, but it works. After rebooting if you go to FS folder to find the config file you won't see it. This will scare the pazootzas out of you. forget it! Just get out of there and go start FS2k2. it will start right up. You will have to reset all of your flying preferences. It won't, however, touch your scenery files. So you won't lose anything.
I'm still a newbie myself but starting to learn a few tricks here and there people have taught me. Just like to share stuff. JYD |

You should be able to find this easy enough as it is in adventures or preset flights. |

OK- Here's how:
Get into the flight.
Head about 290 to 294 degrees. Instructions say 294, but I found btween these two numbers is best.
Trim so you are climbing about 5 vertical climb.
When you are climbing nice and steady and you are getting close to the mountain in front of you hit shift+1 to go to full outside screen (This shift+1 will also bring your panel back too.).
Now... watch about half way up the mountain side. Notice a small fumerole (like a tiny volcano top) at center screen or slightly to the left? that's it.
Keep watching it. it takes about 15 to 20 seconds. It's very nicely done. I turned around and poistioned myself so I could fly over it too. When I figured I was right on top I hit #5 on the keypad (not the top row of numbers on your keyboard, but over on the right side). This gives you a look straight down view.
That puppy erupted and I could see right down inside. Soon everything went black because of the smoke. Soon it cleared up as I flew through it.
Give it a try. jyd |
