|
|
In the last 2 weeks my computer has slowed down to a crawl. I have checked for viruses and spyware and everything is clean. It take about 3 seconds to load every page that comes up. here is a snapshot of my task manager. I read a while back about commit/charge ........if the commit is larger than charge then someting is wrong????not very techie.. Have a peek and if one of you tech savy folks see anything that looks odd please let me know.
Thanks |

Get the latest version of HiJackThis...something is infecting your system to get idle process that high. Also, you got way too many processes running. Run the scan with HiJack, and send me your log...

| Get Hijackthis, SpeedUpMyPC, and IOLO System Mechanic Pro. This tweaks your cpu and ram. |

Got the log Richy...thanks.
YOu got a lot of processes running that don't need to be. Also, your AV program is missing some processes in scanning. Do you have it updated?
Do this:
Update your AV/Spyware/Adware programs if not already done so. Shut down your PC for at least a minute after you do that. Reboot, wait till WIndoze had loaded (about 2 minutes) and shut down again. Turn off the power to the PC. Wait a minute. You are cold booting by doing this. Plug the power back in and restart it, taking care NOT to start anything else other than what Windoze loads up automatically. Open up task manager and take a shot of the processes running and post it in this thread again. Then run HiJack again and send me the log via PM. Need a clean boot to look at. Then we'll go from there okay?

Seems like you have a few processes that are masquerading as legitimate programs. Hate to tell you this...you are looking at a reinstall of Xp in order to get rid of them...do a backup of your important data, and reinstall Xp fresh and clean. Then update Windoze first, then your AV/Spyware/Adware stuff and then reinstall your programs/games...
Sorry. There is just too much to go through and fix/assess/repair.

...or then You could backup Your valuable data and try to remove a lot of stuff, make the computer clean. It wont run as fast as with a reinstall, ut hopefully it works. Remove 90% of the program files folder, especially from the programs You have downloaded. Install new drivers, all those programs You need every day, virus checks and adaware checks (keep Your pc away from the net while You dont have those installed), update them, run them, then run scandisk, then disk defragmentor, then different (reliable) registry cleaners etc, You should be getting the point by now. This is what i do when i am experencing computer slowdown. Format stinks...
and as long as You have backed up everything You need and You are not open to the net while the virus check is down, You have nothing to lose. In the end You can still commit a reinstall.
Good luck and hope this helps

Actually Myth..if you take a look at his processes...the infection is quite deep. A simple removal of programs/folders will not solve the problem as it goes beyond a mere registry infection.
Your choice Richy.

Does not look like it is nessecarily so. As You will have to backup everything You need anyway, i still suggest You try what i said. But then again, it might not work and You could lose 2-3 hours' work.
It is still Your call.

| When I looked at my task manager, I saw many programs called "svchost". What are those? Sometimes, one "svchost" takes up 68mb of memory. |
