Is it normal when using the full screen mode to have a black screen associated with switching to the menu bar, map, kneepad, fsnavigator.
The gps loads without a problem.
My system is:
OS XPsp2
FS9.1
1.3Ghtz CPU
128mb Nvidia graffics card
768 ram

Richard, Welcome to Surclaro...
No, that's not normal but if I remember correctly you can change that with a simple edit to the FS9.cfg file.
Open the FS9.cfg file ( C:\Documents and Settings\*YOUR USERNAME*\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\FS9.CFG ) and look for the following information:
[USERINTERFACE]
MAP_ORIENTATION=2
PAUSE_ON_LOST_FOCUS=0 <<Edit this line to read "0" if it reads anything other than "0"
PROMPT_ON_EXIT=0
SelectFlightLevel=0
SelectFlightTitle=0
I may be wrong but I think I remember that fixing it. Give it a shot and see if that helps you. |

Many thanks for the quick response. I tried your suggestion but still seem to get the black screens. ie the black screen appears prior to loading the request. Could this be somehow related to my nvidia card GF fx5200 128 mb. I also seem to have 2 FS9 config files :FS9.cfg anf FS9cfg.txt - both have identical info. I changed them both.

Although new to FS9 I am not new to simming having been an ardent follower of FLY!2 for many years and not to flying having held a ppl with 4 single engine small aircraft ratings. I am now retired and had to let my license lapse due to cash restraints. I have a passion for realism and am impressed with the 3D VC views which I use most of the time. |

Some Nvidia drivers cause the black screen phenomena...try a different driver. For the FX5200's, the driver version most popular was the 66 series. You can find them at Nvidia's site by using Nvidia's control panel, by manufacturer of the card or in the archives at www.guru3d.com.

Many thanks for that. Installed the latest 66 series drivers and after fiddling a bit with anti aliasing all is well.
