|
|
For some months now, every time I shut down FS9 with either the Menu/Exit selection or the on-screen red 'Close' button it begins a restart. First I get the error/"Inform Microsoft about this Problem?" dialog box, then after updating for any cfg changes made in the session, the program opening box I last used (select a flight, library, etc.) To fully close the program, I now press the ESC key followed by the 'Y' key. If I'm making changes with AFCAD or TTools, this 'auto-restart' is convenient, and I continue normally; otherwise, extra moves and a pain in the rear, especially if I'm in a hurry - often the case around here. I suspect fs9.cfg, but just don't truly know.
System:
Pentium 3.0 GHz processor - HP Pavilon series
Video card: ATI 9200
Any help appreciated

Cause the error and list the error statement in full that the message contains. Without that it would be next to impossible to diagnose...

Message in the dialog box header is: Microsoft Flight Simulator 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Message in the dialog box body is: If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working with might be lost.
(check box) Restart Microsoft Flight Simulator 9.0
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
error report info, etc., and Send Error Report/Don't Send buttons/

something like this...
The error report itself contains several pages of very specific data, which I find rather not usefull, but perhaps other people (microsoft's programmers) find it very usefull indeed.. |

Try updating to the newest version 9.1. Also, update all video/motherboard/chipset drivers. Is FS the only problem or are their other programs?

I've updated to FS9.1, and updated everything else sometime before. This all started after I did a system restore some time ago. Nothing else has been affected, and I have a TON of other files.
By the way, Exx, what time zone are you in so I might have an idea as to when to reasonably know what time PST/PDT to expect to find answers?

| You say you did a system restore? How far back did you go? Do you have the latest FSUIPC? Also, when you see that window, could you click on the details link at the lower right and show us that as well? |

Ahhh...Klamath Falls...many a drive thru there. Same time zone as yours...I just don't sleep that much so you can catch me on here almost at any time zone.
May I ask why you had to do a system restore? Have you tried to reinstall FS since that restore? I mean a complete reinstall?

| Restored (Early this spring) because I inadverently altered some basic XP setting and couldn't figure out how to correct it. MS live help line wasn't much help, so I 'bit the bullet', and restored to what origionally came with the computer. I've uninstalled/reinstalled FS9 a couple of times since, to no avail other than the hassle of reloading my tons of addons (esp, aircraft and sceneries), but nothing I've done has cleared up the glitch. (BTW, no idea how I mis-spelled that in the header). I note someone else has the same problem, and it is truly merely an irritant which I consider unnecessary, having used computers and various versions of MSFS for years (more than the ages of some forum members!). However, it really bugs me when something dosen't work the way I believe it should, and I'd really like to un-ravel it and get rid of the irritation and time loss. Even though I am retired, I'm into FS and related things so much of the time I almost have to program in time to eat, sleep, go to the store and so on. Talk about fixation and addiction!!! |

Give us a pic of the error details as Jort has done and as suggested by GS. Also some answers to previous questions as it all helps with the diagnosis...
