whew, sounds like something in Your fs9 files is horribly corrupt. i'd suggest reinstalling fs9, it should be the easiest way, but if You prefer to find out what Your problem is and fixing it, stay tuned for the others posts.

I have experienced that before, although it was not when I used FS2004. I found out it was a virus. A window would pop up with a timer, and when it got to zero, my computer just shut down. 8O

Rather than starting all over again, have you tried deleting FS9.cfg
To rebuild the Flight Simulator configuration file, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type %appdata%\Microsoft\FS9 , and then click OK.
Rename the FS9.CFG file to FS9.BAK .
Start Flight Simulator 2004 - A Century of Flight.
Restarting Flight Simulator 2004 - A Century of Flight rebuilds the configuration file.

That's the biggest BS virus I've ever heard of, that stupid controller which thinks "oh, let me take over this time! Let's start by shutting down the computer in 15 min! hahaha!!!" 8O 8O
Did you remove that virus? That sounds like the biggest personal work time abuse I've ever heard of. The creator of that should go to jail :x .

Yes, I did get rid of that virus. It was a combination of 17 worms. Sorry, I can't remember what they were.

What program(s) did you use? I suspect an invader on my computer as files are vanishing! and other weird stuff happen like internet disconnects after a period of time. My other topic is here:

Actually, my computer was a mess, so I backed everything up and reformatted my hard drive.
I now use Norton AntiVirus, Avast! Home Edition, Microsoft AntiSpyware, and Spybot Search & Destroy. Emphasis on the Spybot, because the spyware definitions are frequently updated, catches a lot, has a record low scan time, and has been rated a 9 out of 10 by my computer magazine, Maximum PC and has been given a "Kick-Ass" award.
Those are just for viruses and spyware and does not include my firewalls.
I consider my computer as sort of a "fortress" now and I am very happy as it has been running very smoothly for some time now and has caught many viruses with my 2+ "On-Access" scanners, especially ones that I bombarded my computer with intentionally. :) |

You cannot say it is the best. every av program has its own pros and cons, the freaquency of updates, security level etc.
