Greetings Surclaro Forum,
Which graphics card is better: the FX5500, or the 6600? Both of them can fit in my computer. I found out the minimum watts you need for the 6600 is 300. Is there a specific PSU I need for the FX5500? I have 250 (it came with my computer so dont make fun of me). Is there also a way to combine video cards? I have 3 PCI slots and one AGP slot. If I take the graphics controller out of my computer then I have 4 PCI slots. Any help? Thanx!
I might get the 550w PSU-I MUST HAVE POWER!!!!

Hi Concordeboy...
It sounds like you have an older motherboard - nothing wrong with that, but it won't support multiple video card setups. You'll need something with two PCI-E slots for a multi-GPU SLI setup.
Definitely plan on a PSU upgrade. 250W isn't much these days, especially with a newer video card.
I'd take a 6600 over the 5500 if you have the power to support it - keep in mind the 6800GT cards are now reasonably priced - I've seen nice 256MB cards with DDR3 RAM for less than $150 US.
Sounds like you're on track - new GPU, new PSU... maybe a new motherboard and processor next... pretty soon all that'll be original is the case! :) |

| You are right....you do need the power. There is no such thing as too big a power supply, the more the better. I would recommend an AGP type vid card for best performance at your level. |
