|

Hey Flight Fans,
Does anyone know if the ATC in FS-X has been significantly improved??? I love the FS series-- I go way back to the 1980s days when FS had patchy 2-d graphics with the Piper Cherokee at Meigs and you had to use your image and stuff...But my biggest gripe with FS is the massives glitches with ATC, especially with landing priority of AI aircraft and the dreaded "Go-arounds".
I heard reviews of better graphics in FS X, but no one is talking much at ATC. And with all the slow-frame rate issues, is FS-X worth it right now? Will we eventually have nice FS-X add-ons and patches like we enjoyed with FS 9 and 8?
Hope to hear some response.

Sorry, but I can't answer the ATC question. Don't use it for either one.
Just as when FS changed from one series, to the next (except 2002-2004 in some areas), there were changes that needed to learned all over again.
Same with FSX. The structure core is different to read faster. Coding is done differently, also to go faster and do more things never thought possible or even imagined.
The developers of FS9 addons are already working on and with FSX. Including me. It will be awhile for the gauges and panels to come out that alot of people want. Paints are basically the same except for format. Effects are close to FS9, but with new toys that can be added with XML's, as well as a way to add sound. Only problem I have found with sound, is it doesn't allow a delay, as you can with the effect.
Addons are coming, just need some time for the authors to get them up and going.

Thanks Rd.
I hope Microsoft hasn't purposely made things harder for 3rd party developers and other people who strive to make FS better.
I probably will wait a while before buying FS 9-- I will to see if Microsoft will release a patch to address some initial bugs, hoping solving some issues like the big performance issues. |

I think he meant FSX, and not FS9/FS2004. I am pretty sure he has FS9/FS2004 already.

Hey P47, it seems that the Microsoft 'Aces' team is striving to make things easier for the developer. The SDK's (Software Development kits) are released WITH the product this time, not months later, and there's a general sentiment of 'Dazzle us' on their FSinsider site's comments in regards to third party add-ons developing.
Sure, they've been vague regarding FSX's backwards-compatability with FS9 stuff...but that's better than 'Sure, it'll all work, port it on over.'
I think they also realize that a MASSIVE cottage community for add-ons, along with a MASSIVE forum community, etc, help keep current releases of FS alive and sought-after. We are, in a way, all quite responsible for the excellence and prevalence of this flight simulator. 8O |

Harkonnen,
Good to hear Microsoft making it easier for the developer guys. But is the ATC module of FS still kept lock-up. I heard developers say in the past versions they couldn't do much with ATC (excluding adding/custom aricraft & flights).
I really hope in FS-X that the whole process of clearing aircraft to land is changed extensively-- like clearing fast IFR aircraft before slow VFR aircraft. I did hear ATC in FS-X gives target airspeeds, which would help a lot. The AI aircraft in the past versions tend to fly faster than FAA would permit in certain areas... |

| I have no idea about ATC specifics, sorry. I don't have FSX yet...I have just read enough to know that it's something to look forward to running well, and I'm eager to catch up on the developer side of things myself. Hopefully you'll see some improvements with ATC in FSX, maybe even more user control? Best of luck. :) |
