I Cant help but notice these posts that are becoming more and more frequent; when a so called "newbie" asks a question that is somewhat trivial or simple, some `experienced` forum members have the strange ability to make little of the question. Ive even seen someone say that a question is inappropriate because the 'newbie' failed to consult help files on FS, or indeed search the web i.e. "Google It".
I find this very harsh and the opposite of what these fourms are for. As a resource. Because they are used by experienced people of a particular subject one can get more direct useful information about a given topic without having to filter the useless or unrelated info from a manual. I, personally, find such responses as just rude and other words I will not belittle myself to use.
I have been using surclaro since as long as I remember playing FS, I find it an excellent resource but people should show some patience and understanding when, for example a student pilot asks for tips for making a short final; do not simply say "follow the lessons", as they probably have (though I never did) tell them your own human tips, where you aim for on the runway; the touchdown zone or like myself aim abit further up. Just because you know the in's and out's of ILS so well that for you landing a back-course is the same riding a bicycle. Just try and help, suggest your own tips, point someone in the right direction of info or just dont post if it has to be derogetory of some form.

Although I should note that some posters, probably "newbies" are fantastic at being annoying, either posting subjects that are just stupid; "Please help", "Has anyone ever", "This is my problem..." they're all frustrating and of course the sometimes laughable spelling.
Just making my feelings known, sorry if I posted in the wrong place.

Regards,
Frodo.

I can see what you mean Frodo, and I respect it. I don't have anything against helping others and give my own human tips for it. However, when a newbie comes and asks a question, e.g. ILS which has been asked 100000000 of times, I find it annoying that the person didn't take the time to look in the forums. There's an ANNOUNCEMENT for how to deal with the ILS, and if the person did open his/her eyes, it would see it. That's what I find a waste of time- to answear that kind og questions. If the person can't even use the eyes to look at the FIRST post in the forums, then.....!

the reason why i gave "newbies" asking for ILS help, is because it was in my head, namely because i seen the question 1000times at least I understand your point!! :D

Frodo,

If you cannot take some ribbing, you better get thicker skin. This forum is nothing compared to the XP forums I have helped in the past.

Stop whining.

Formulate your question with your intellect, and ask after doing some legwork yourself.

You think it is so simple for us older guys to spill our guts at the drop of a hat. In fact, after having written articles on "HOW TO TWEAK the nVidia GPU's" and referencing others to it, I FIND they DO NOT USE IT & are simply stupid and it ANNOYS me to no end knowing I WASTED my time in the first place! The article is here if you ever need to read it on nVidia authorized total factory tweaks. How did I get that info? NOT from asking anyone! I wrote it after much reading, researching, and sharing.

Admit it, your generation is spoon fed, enabled to the hilt in all things. To say otherwise is just not the truth. Not only do you want the information the easy way, you try to make US feel guilty if we do not stop in our tracks and say, "CHECK YOUR CPU FOR DIRT, it is overheating and caused the throttles to stick." I am sure we could spit it out fast, but how many times? 50? 200? I stop at one.

Besides having the few hours in a day to develop our art: FOR YOU, FOR FREE; we must contend with Copyrights, Legal issues, Instructions written for a 6 year old & we must GIVE OUT OUR (secondary even) EMAIL. It usually ends up with all the spammers & people with problems reading in the world that might and most do SPAM our boxes. Which they DO! I have had to change my addy at least 5 times!

Am I sarcastic? YES! WHY? DID YOU READ THE ABOVE POST?

Try walking a mile in OUR mocassins before griping about a few mild puns.

I know I have helped many in private one on one email and phone call sessions in the past. It is draining. Especially for a 52 year old SAC/BUFF Vet.

I care not to involve myself with any more trite diatribe of wasted words that will most likely cause both of us to become dismayed at the game and each other.

Suffice it to say, get thick skin, let it roll off your back, pop a joke in once in awhile, research your question first, and don't complain.

It could be worse, WE ALL COULD CHARGE YOU MORE THAN PAYWARE! AND GET IT BECAUSE FREEWARE IS THE BEST!

PS: If you have visited this site for many moons, why only 4 posts?

Remember, we were all newbies, once.

I was never a newbie, and I have never called anybody a newbie. I think it's just so cute how some people call themselves "newbie". I challenge you to find a single person that I have helped who did not have to suffer me first. If they didnt notice.....well, their lack of perception probably saved them from being truly P.O.'d  . You dont know how hard it was not to delete this thread outright, but who am I to judge....right? I am a moderator...I moderate...there is no moderators handbook...there are no laws governing the behavior of a moderator...because we are not really here. The whole time you have been reading this post you were only looking at one of the myriad television screens that connect reality with fantasy. You guess which one is which, that's the trick.

When I first joined Surclaro, my signature contained the following verbage because I felt that these words are very important. On behalf of the Moderators and the hundreds of "active members", I apologize if we messed up anybody's shine.

A GOOD FRIEND IS SOMEONE WHO CAN STEP ON YOUR TOES WITHOUT MESSING UP YOUR SHINE.

MY TURN, MY TURN, LMAO

NEWBIE??? ME???

Yeah, when I first joined SurClaro, I was a "newbie". But, I didn't ask questions, I answered them. And answered more and more on the same subject. When you answer the same questions over and over and over again, you get disgusted by the laziness of others to "seek the holy grail".

Then, of all the "Mother of Titles" HELP.....INFO.....PLEASE, what the hell. At least be mature, intelligent enough to GET our attention on the subject. There is an announcement at the very top of the popular forums, that nobody reads. If they did, then this thread wouldn't be here, simple as that.

Another case why we say SEARCH IT. I have found that people want something, and within 30 seconds here, or 2 minutes on Google, I have found what they were looking for. Do that 10 times a month, and you will also get disgusted by the lazy ones.

Helping others, I have done more in a month than you have done in a year both publicly and privately. I get myself into holes, that thank goodness I can climb out of, but I still do it for the members. And will continue to do so.

This is not a B*tch, your post is relevant, as the others that have posted the same darn thing you have.

Hey Frodo,
Enjoy your 20 minutes of fame in our limelight here at the DUDE RANCH.

It is part of the rutual we give all users with many of these ???? in thier pocket.

Just enjoy it, roll with it, we have ALL been there. So go with the flow and let us pick on u some more, lol. J/K!

Stick around it does get better. When? I do not know. Depends on the "laminar flow of the crow". The "HSI in my Eye"

We get so tired sometimes, we need newbies,,,, to vent on. lol lmfao.

Good one RD!

This was meant to be serious but I can see the kiddies have all come out to play. lol.

Hey, like my father in law always said:

"It is when noboby talks to you that you better worry!"

So we do like you, stick around, it gets better, really.

Now come back with one of yours and show us all your spunk.

wow!
firstly I understand you 'experienced' folks getting p.o'd with laziness, I would too. I had hoped I made that clear in my original post. Secondly to the question as to why if i had been here for 'moons' I only have 4 posts, two reasons. Firstly I had a previous name which I subsequently forgot after getting more busy in the 'real' world. Secondly I have read the fourms for my own answers, researched for myself, and found my own info, and did not have the time to post, sorry if that makes me a bad member for not helping out but hey I have other things to do as well. I am sorry but if I was only on Surclaro for a week and paid 40 quid for the latest version of FS and didnt know how to land a plane, I would like to think I could find a resource such as this ask my questions and expect to recieve anwers either helpful, of insight or none at all. Regardless of how many times its been asked, if it P's you off, DONT ANSWER, its that simple. Dont just give a rude answere and then complain about it. Thats my point.
FYI Whoever siad your generation has been spoonfed? I find just sterotypical; Under 25 has it easy! Dont assume you know ppl and dont typecast ppl. If you must dont do it to me, and dont do it in a public place, such as this. Just cuz your too old.
PS Thanks for not deleting the thread I think I (and others) have raised some valid points which should be noted by both "newbies" and "oldies" alike.
For those of your who have created software, tutorials and other things clearly taking much time and dedication, I am very greatful as they are sometimes masterful.

Of all the statements you expoused on, only a few I have contention with. They are: I am "old", your right: to you I am old. And to the fact of being rude? Not a truth in that, maybe harsh, but never rude. As a developer with many designs on the table for all to consume, I become irritated at trivial questions when MSFT and the FS9 HELP menus cover so much.

I did not mean for you to take offense at the c r a c k about being a spoonfed generation, which most 10-22 year olds are. That is just a fact. Seems like your not part of that crowd.

We all GET TIRED of this stuff, PERIOD. Admit it to yourself, you do too. If you don't, you haven't been in this game long enough. I guess you have because you came back with spunk, which is good.

All of us DO HELP others. We are not perfect, nor walk on water. If you are offended by what is said to you in ANY FORUM, it is public yes, so what? Nobody is going to bother you about it anyway. So do not think your ego is the center of the universe. Which I doubt you think that way.

I will call them as I see them and if it ruffles feathers OH WELL. Life goes on! Just do not get up and spill your coffee, tea, or soda over anything said in a Forum, or you will get heartburn.

Bring us some grand jokes once in awhile, be part of the team not someone who watches from the stands, OK? No reply is needed as I must go repair a friends server now.

Have a great day, enjoy the fun here.

I agree to the fact that "newbies" should search for answers first before posting, and i also do agree that forum "experts" should not cast them away by telling them they should "google it", because probably thats what they have already done.. and have finally decided to ask. And by telling them again to "google it", what you are really doing is give the impression of "sh*t, I am not intelligent enough to ask intelligent questions in these forums." Just because you are "googling" experts who can find answers within minutes does not mean that everyone are "googling" experts as well. There are people who have trouble trying to find what they want on the internet, you know. There are even some people who have trouble with just the installation of any programs, or their own computer settings.

Just a small note.

1. For those who lack the total skills needed to interface with rest of the world on the Internet:

Go back to school,

Buy a "How To Book",

Study at the library,

Take private lessons.

Just a few POSITIVE avenues one takes to improve thier learning skills.

I will speak for me alone: I have helped MANY people in regards to many issues. I need no one tell to me how to operate in life. You have determined yourself to engage many of us, me in particular with this diatribe of horse s.

So lets put an end to it. Now. I could care less if they pulled it from the BBS. But it should be left here for other reasons.

Just remember, when you want something from somebody don't start cr ..a...p It always comes back to get all of us.
