My copy of a fantastic book arrived in the mail yesterday. The name of the book is MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR AS A TRAINING AID. I read the first three chapters last night and I am anxious to read the rest of the book.
This book definitely ends the argument of whether Microsoft Flight Simulator software is a game or a Simulator. After reading this book, you will have to agree with me that MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR IS NOT A GAME.
Check out this website and run out and order a copy of this book immediately:

I am very impressed with your "Speed Reading" skills. I only made this post about one half hour ago. How were you able to order the book, read it, and come to the conclusion that Microsoft Flight Simulator is a game? Perhaps you skipped over a few of the chapters????8) 8) |

Heck, I was more impressed with FetExx getting it here "next minute". lol
Seriously though, to me, it's a game. It can be modified to do things your not supposed to do. Then there are those that USE it as a sim/training aid. For them, that is fine, no problem here. |

| I say it's a game to annoy those who think it is not, that is just my nature because the argument is moot as there is only one pilot per joystick (as God intended) which makes it personal therefore there can be no consensus only poll results. |

Now that we have all heard from the "Peanut Gallery", let's get back to the subject of this topic. It was not my intention to start a debate about whether this software is or is not a game. Instead, my intention was to let you know that there is a great book out there on the market. I hope that you all get a chance to read this book.
Don't forget to check out the many good features on his website.

| It may be a simulator...with proper hardware (joystick, multiple monitors, super super super fast FPS) and excellent flight dynamics. |

I think of Microsoft Simulator as a...... simulator. As viche12345 stated, "with proper hardware."
I mean check out this website:

These guys are taking MS FS2004 to whole new level of realism. |

FS9 is not a game it is a simulator.... FSX is a game because it is so limited and it is not completed yet... Someday it will be a good simulator...
I have FS9 on a 2.6 computer with 2gigs of memory and totally dedicated to FS9. I have all the pedals, joy sticks, yokes. You got to have the equipment. Plus the super scenery packs, the real time weather packs.
Plus I have a Nostromo speed pad N52. You can program FS9 important controls on the speed pad. When your right hand is on the stick on an ILS landing in a blizzard you can't hunt and peck on a keyboard.
Your left hand can control the gear up/down, reverse engines, parking break, start/stop engines, flaps up/down, views, prop feather, pause, exit, shutoff AP, all with the left hand and one keystroke per command. You can program four sets of keypads and switch with a simple button.. Usually only one program is required...
Many of the FS9 commands require more than one key. You can assign multiple keystrokes to one key on the N52.
I like the MS Train Simulator. I have the Dash 9 diesel engine controls on the pad... Driving a 20 car train over Marias Pass in the Northern Rockies in a snow storm at night is hard work... If you get to fast she will jump the track or slow too much she will start sliding backwards.... Not a job I would want in real life...
You have to buy good airplanes to get the full power of FS9. Most freebies are kind of flaky. But, some are pretty good, like the DHC-8 turboprop commuter... Hard to fly but loads of fun. Learned a lot from it...
You need a good panel editor so you can add and subtract gauges to fit your style and maximize information input to you...
Some people will modify the airplane config file to make it easy to fly. I consider that cheating... The point of the exercise is to increase your flying skills and keep the airplane as real as possible..
I subscribe to "Flying" magazine and after flying the FS9 and learning the gauges I can understand the tech talk and flying tips..
I have a distant cousin that is a flight controller at Anchorage. After flying FS9 all over Alaska we can talk shop at the yearly family reunion. Neat...
FS9 has many problems and infinite solutions and some problems have no solutions, like flying into a high narrow box canyon in a super cup that can't get over the top.... FS9 is a simulator....

You'all must be fantastic speed-readers. How were you'all able to finish reading the book and make a judgement of Game vs Simulator so quickly? It took me two days to finish reading the book.
I just copied the files from the CD to my computer yesterday and I made another copy on my computer in my office so that I can do some research over my lunch hour. You'all can't go wrong by purchasing this book which includes a "fantastic CD". The CD contains practice flights for FS9 and FSX. In addition, it includes research material (excerpts from various aviation manuals).
May I suggest that you'all read the book (per the topic of this posting) before voting for Simulator vs Game.8) 8)

It's a game simulator.
There. That takes care of that.......and I don't have to waste time reading. Literary endeavor is for wimps anyway. |

Well ,
Here now,
READING IS FOR WIMPS?
THANK GOD WE USED THE JU-JU BEADS TO SEND MEN TO THE MOON,
to make your pulp ridden prune juice,
anchors for your dentures,
your special fitted suits & ties for men who MUST NEVER AGE due to the GODLESS idea the UNIVERSE {according to Hawkins & Sagan}, NAMES UNBEKNOWNST to thee, REVOLVES around your centroid personality sufficiency axis on dual purpose realities in zero gravity.
Thank God WE have a book, IF IT BE A LIE STRIKE ME DEAD IN MY SHOES, heretofore once scoffed at, now accepted, believed in, process implemented & has DONE more good for mankind than you or I will ever do.
In many ways, if you carry the Ipod, Blackberry{pie, lmao} or any of the marvelous techno-toys close enough to the device that magnifies a persons hearing, but also their disposition in life, YOU MIGHT HEAR A GENUINE INTELLIGENT COVERSATION.
But alas; thy sty in thine eye presupposes the main discourse in your hypothesis. Albeit a fancy one to treat & feast upon in the wilderness
of many echos of your teutonic life. Suffice it to say, thou art but a grain of dirt in the soil. Be thankful for low tide.
Oh, if it were not for those people WHO ENDEAVOR TO BROADEN THERE MINDS & SPIRITS THROUGH READING, ENDEAVORING TO BETTER themselves; your discount 40 watt Wal-Mart light bulb would NEVER have come to fruition.
I think I HAVE READ enough of the inane babel in your statement, relief it be to cease and desist from such a wandering topical joke as thou has laid upon my table as a preparation for my replenishment of nourishment.
In your English it all means: YOU ARE FULL OF s.
Please, shall we dance into a debate offline, BRING THY CLOTH, for the first blood I draw is Quick and with Pain. Thine ego shall be slain. No power to be gained!
I am VERY up to date in all areas of many books. You, are not. Lest it be said I lie as does a Cretan.
Ponder this: If a Cretan is a known lier, & the same Cretan STATES HE IS LYING; which is it: the truth or a lie he speaks? hum?
Better get a history BOOK and READ it.
What joy it brings me to share with you Flight Sim information. The 747 is big. All planes are usually good to go. Pitch trim is critical.
OH my, I spoke the dreaded word, MANUAL!
There is my contribution. Yours?
Skipperdan can out do you in less time than it takes to regenerate a harmonic vibration induced ultra low frequncy quartz crystal sine wave!
READ THAT! |
