There seems to be a huge controversy on what the optimum specs are for ... well... optimum performance on FSX. Currently, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get optimum performance, as Microsoft released this game way too early. In other words, today's systems are not powerful enough to handle the potential of FSX. Since FSX is optimized for VISTA, DX10, and 64-bit, all way too expensive AND risky to obtain, it would be more wise to build a rig of max performance, only if you want to play FSX today and don't care much about reaching FSX's potential.
I have to start off by saying that Nvidia's 8800 series may somewhat be well off running FSX. However, contrary to what many may expect, it may not be a good idea to purchase this card yet. As you all may know already, new things are never perfect. DX10 and Vista are extremely new, and only an extreme minority of the world has a powerful machine to merely meet the premium requirements of these software. DX10 is new, which means it can be buggy. For those who have experienced DX9 when it was released, do you remember how buggy it was? As Microsoft released updates, DX9 became the core of gaming.
You may thinking now, "So what? I like working with annoying, buggy software. I can handle it." But there is another concern. Can your processor and overall system specs handle it? In order to run a DX10-enabled video card, you may have to have the following:
INTENSE Dual-core (Quad-core for best results) processor
AT LEAST 2 GB of DDR2 RAM
Super fast mobo FSB (1066mhz min)
For all of you impatient people, by all means, buy away. You will have the best gaming experience of your life...but only for about 6 months. LOL. Technology is moving so fast nowadays that your 8800GTX will soon be outdated. There are new, upcoming DX10 video cards, able to support GDDR4, 1 GB of VRAM, more unified shaders, and much more.
My advice?
Like some people say,
WAIT
You can beg your daddy to buy the most expensive hardware TODAY, but you will soon regret.
OK I think I've scared many people already. So I am going to prepare a list on what I think it is the best AND AFFORDABLE hardware config today to get the most of out of common games:
Conroe 6400 Intel Processor
Nvidia 7900 GT
Regular 160GB 720RPM hard drive
I am at school right now, so I don't have time to finish the list. Meanwhile, you guys continue to add to OR correct the list. Voice your opinion. This topic will become a sharing topic: Best config.
If this topic were made a sticky, I would greatly appreciate it. lol
I hope all of you understand the importance of patience. Happy gaming! |
