Good Day to you all
does anyone know anything on microsoft vista, I've heard its a waste of money and a piece of crap but why, it is obviously better than XP so whats all the fuss about. is it worth getting. If you know anything about it and know the price of a vista installed computer please tell (can I have all prices in UK pounds [£] and not dollars or Euros thanks) thanks.

| I'm certainly not a computer expert, even though I spend an awful lot of time using them, but one thing stands out to me. Vista is simply easier to navigate. To be honest, I wouldn't shell out any money to upgrade to the new O/S however, because there are still a lot of programs out there that have yet to catch up and become capatible with Vista, some of them very useful. |

i thought it was supposed to be like the next gen 64-bit compatible O/S
it also uses up a lot of RAM.
It jus came out, needs to be debugged some im sure - and like someone said, other programs have yet to catch up.
i wouldnt shell out much.
its approx 2 USD to 1 GBP.
Or i think today it broke the 2 USD barrier........ |

I've tried Vista. It LOOKS AMAZING... but hardly anything works. :roll:
The novelty wears off very quickly. I'm not going to use Vista until I have a Direct X 10 Graphics card to stretch it to it's full potential. Also, as with all Operating systems, there are lots and lots of little bugs at the beginning that need to be ironed out. So I'll also wait until they release a Vista Service Pack before I consider using it, especially for gaming. |

Vista requires a loaded late model computer to run it properly.
The new scam involving new computer sales is that makers put out a
computer with just enough to run Vista Basic, which is the bare bones
version that hasn't the features that make Vista worthwhile. Chances are
the the computer will not be upgradeable to more advanced Vista versions.
Vista basic is only good for the web and email if you can find
browsers and email programs that will run it. I never use
MS browser and email as they are full of security holes
created by the Active X features.
So when you buy a new computer be sure that OEM op system is Vista Home premium at a minimum.
There are several law suits pending against this practice.
Another wrinkle that is appearing is that upgrading XP to Vista has
problems with some XP versions will not upgrade to some Vista versions.
Plus once you break the seal on the upgrade software
you cannot take it back.
Upgrades are very risky hardware and software wise.
As most of your XP software probably won't run on Vista
due to a lack of drivers...
To sum up Vista, I would say to WAIT as long as you can.
The Vista Dog doesn't hunt at this time...

| Another advantage of Vista that I recently learned of and confirmed is that on a truly compatible computer, it loads much faster than XP. To be honest though guys, unless you are purchasing a new computer, I would stick with XP. If you are purchasing a new comp, be sure to check out all the specs and make sure that you have plenty of room left on the hard drive(s) for the program and plenty of RAM. If you do, Vista should run *beep*. Yes, I use most of the features at one time or another, but I am a very heavy computer user, using it for my schoolwork and for the business I am starting up plus my wife is using it for her schoolwork as well (we attend college online). I feel that most of the advanced features of Vista, although useful to me, probably will go unnoticed and unutilized by most users. |
