First off, I dont know if this is the right place to post this, but I am anyways.
Just built a new gaming pc. I am having trouble. I am not getting no power what-so-ever. My PSU works, but not in my system. I pulled it out and put it in a friends system, and it works fine. I hooked my friend's PSU, still no power to turn on the PC. Is it my front power button, motherboard, anything? Please, need some help!
Alright the specs are as follows:
Motherboard: Geforce 6100-M9
RAM: 2GB
HD: 320GB
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 (2.4 GHz)
VGA: Geforce 7600GT 512MB
Check this, I unplugged all the wires and connected just the 4Pin ground wire to its respectable slot. I then did the "paperclip" trick with the 20/24Pin wire. Everything kicked on, video card fan started running, all the fans started running...of course along with the PSU. I then plugged the 4Pin wire from the 20/24Pin wire into its respectable slot and redid the "paperclip" trick (stick paperclip into green wire hole and then to a black wire hole) with the remaining 20Pin wire. Everything started up like previously except this time my CPU fan kicked on. So, now I am stuck. for some reason the 20Pin wire is not working when connected to the MOBO. even the power switch button up front dont work. Any help?
for faster help, please email me!

OSen,
I'm no computer guru even though I have built a few of my own systems. It's looking to me as though your mobo is DOA, or some component thereon.
My best suggestion is to call around to some local Mom & Pop computer shops near you and see if they have time to run tests on your mobo. Hopefully, they will be able to do it for you while you wait. I have a great little Mom & Pop Shop near me. If I buy even a jumper clip from them, they will oftentimes perform troubleshooting component tests for free! Tran-Micro.
That's my shot in the dark.

Sounds like a faulty PSU. Try using another one or a PSU from an old computer.
Here's another method. I call this the troubleshooting method. You are basically running the computer out of the case, with only the bare necessities on the mobo.

You can always post your question on the pcmech forums too. ;) |
