i found this and thought it was interesting. AMD is finally fighting back and will hopefully overcome the Core 2 Duo. There processor name is Phenom (fee nom).

MHO... I hate the fact that AMD and ATI are in bed together. Talk about prostituting, UGH.

I love AMD, and will always use their stuff. But, I will not mate it with an ATI.

As for the news, very good. Intel is junk, but had the guts to do it first. It was only a matter of time, for AMD to step it up.

Good things comes from those that wait.

Thanks for the info.

I was searching around and saw that the CPUs should be ready in November.
On a side note, The demonstration PC Amd used to show off the Phenom line was coded named "FSN8" or Fascinate. Cool

Bringing back this old thread...
I was searching and also found that if you have an AM2 board, these new X4s will be compatible. However AMD also has announced the new AM2+ and AM3 boards, I'm sure with out doing any research that the AM3 and possibly the AM2+ boards will run on the DDR3 memory, which only Intel is currently running. The releases should be around the third/fourth quarter of 2007, with shipping and what not happening fourth quarter of 2007-2008. I personally can not wait, I know it will be expensive though...

the first AMD Phenoms are released, however AMD is having trouble with the AM3 boards so they expect those to ship in 2008. Also they will be switching to 45nm chips next year so i would not plan to upgrade till the spring when prices drop and bugs are fixed. Go to newegg and check things out.

On the "ha ha" side of Intel things...
Looks like limited to no function on motherboards based on the 680i Nvidia chipset with the QX6950 and Intel wants a license to produce SLI before there will be out of the box support. Some are working on a BIOS c r a c k to make it function, but only time will tell.

8 C o r e *beep* Shocked Shocked Shocked Overkill.. lol

So thats just amazing... an Octa-core

But Intel is definitely NOT junk. They were in fact the first ones to make a Quad core. And I happen to have one, and I tell ya.. its FAST. Faster than my old P4 would ever dream of. I could run Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, Photoshop CS3, Word 2007, folders, iTunes, pictures, some background programs, LimeWire, AND play Counter Strike Source at the SAME TIME (full graphics: 16xQ AA and Anisotropic filtering, 1280x1024 res, etc (even though thats the 8800 Ultra GPU thats helping gfx, but I'm talking about running those programs and a game with 32 players in the game, which is CPU demanding (my old P4 couldn't handle it))).

So what's to say Intel is junk??

Captain El Smile

EDIT: why does an exclamation (!) mark turn into *beep*??
