You know- you guys could just use the CTRL-ALT-DELETE function to bring up taskmanager, and then use it to close background programs you don't need.

I also use a program called SpeedUp for FS9, which actually can defragment the RAM memory- freeing up some much needed space for FS9.

I tried this program on your recomendation (Now Deleted) Screwed up my PC big time....... Just taken me an hour to get it sorted and back up and running.

Anyone wanting to try this BE WARNED !

Mel.

Um, smart close can close programs windows needs to run. You need to make sure it does not, it will mostly know however. I use it on 3 Ocomputers never have a problem with it. Like i said, it could have terminated a windows thing. Sorry it happened to you though...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, here is a way i found out from someone/something:
Go to run
Type "msconfig"
Click OK
Go to "Services" tab
Check, "Hide All Microsoft Services"
Go through the list, keep your spyware/firewall/virus software UNCHECKED
Now go to the "Start Up" tab
Go through that, I disable all but my protection software
Hit "Apply"
Then do which ever one you want after that.
THIS SHOULD BE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

This is at noone in particular....

I am not a computer geek, nor a windows anything geek. It scares the hell out of me when FS9 screws up, and I have to use Task Manager, to shut it down. I immediately go into the fetal position, until everything is OK.

I WILL NOT get anything that shuts stuff down, and I have no clue what it is, it is shutting down. Call me paranoid, if you will. But if I don't know what it is, I leave it alone.

Bottom line....If you don't know what you need running, or don't understand what it will do.........LEAVE IT ALONE.

well I've been running for two weeks FS9 at steady 20FPS without the graphics upgrade...I DID upgrade the sound card to a SB Audigy SE..... Laughing very pleased it fixed the chopping sound...BUT Shocked now it sounds like if I'm inside a tin can....very metallic.

I know is working fine as my MP3's sound magnificent....only the FS9 sounds CRAP Shhh

Hey, check your system and drive verrry carefully for any kind of virus/trojans etc. I have found in the past that the "tinny" sound can be a clue that something wicked this way comes. Also, dont forget to check what your default sound suite setting is...sometimes people choose a "room" or "concert hall" during setup not understanding what the base effect is going to be.

Sorry about getting back to you about that so late. The program does also provide a means to "kill" processes in it (aka another program just like Task Manager) but I don't really use it.

Also, although it says it runs FS faster by accessing it through this SpeedUp program, I usually don't.

WARNING

If you don't know what your messing with, or understand what the heck you are doing, then DO NOT mess with it. If the program as a whole isn't broken, then don't fix it.

If you know what your doing, and have the ability to correct whatever you have done and screwed up, then fine, go for it. But if you don't, and need help correcting it, go to the nearest rest stop, and take a break. I will meet you there. NOT.

Hi, I have used FSautosart with no problems. It too allows you to not run certain things thereby in theory freeing up resources.

I noticed that this thread was on the nvidia 7600gs agp card. I have one and was wondering if it is possible to run another one along with it on my motherboard that has one agp slot, 3 pci slots, and no pci express. Or is it possible to bridge two agp cards with nvidia's sli to a pci express slot if i upgraded my motherboard?

Sorry if this sounds noobish, but I am one when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Thnx

SLI and Crossfire are only available via PCI Express. I've never heard of such with AGP ports.

Agreed, you cannot do it with AGP cards.

If you want to run two of them, then you need to do an upgrade on the motherboard.

As well, you will need to buy 2 new g-cards.
