AFCAD is used for setting up runways, taxiways, parking spaces, start position, tower position, etc. The actual pictures you are referring to are the textures the simulator refers to when rendering images. The two come together in the simulator environment when the latitude and longitude positions are correctly placed. So, technically with AFCAD you could have an airport in the middle of the ocean and all you would see is water. Get the picture? If you study the AFCAD user guide it details how to use the editor.
There are also excellent tutorials and tips of AFCAD in several of the sim websites including Surclaro.

As to buildings, runways, trees and other objects related to visual scenery, these are created with scenery editors and the like and need to be carefully placed so that aircraft actually land on the runway and not mom's house.

This info is contained in the AFCAD readme. You are simply going to have to do your homework if you expect ot receive a grade in this class young man.

sorry, I couldnt help myself. But you will have to study the instructions and directions supplied with the program. There are also several tutorials of AFCAD on several websites, just type AFCAD into your search engine and browse through the web hits.

As to scenery, I believe if you check the downloads files under utilities or editors you will find what you are looking for. I think one of them is called Scenery Creator. I am just beginning to familiarize myself with GMAX, and it is also a scenery designer. There are several scenery macros(ready made scenery objects) available that can be imported into your scenery. Remember, study, study, study.

Hi Kane, nice to see you're back again.

The AFCAD files themselves only enlarge the airport by adding more gate SPACES as well as additional parkin SPACES. This is just because of the fact that MS has reduced them to the needfullest, wich was quite enough with the default traffic.

When you load down a scenerey and read in the readme file, there's an AFCAD file for it, so the author corrected the locations in order not to have the planes parked halfway in the buildings. As often, taxiway, runway and gate location as displayed by MS are not as it is in reality. Some add on developers correct this. Without the AFCAD file you then will see AI-Traffic running besides the taxiways and starting/landing on the meadow besides the actual runway.

Did you succed in fixing your shut down problem, by the way?

The Rhythmosaur

PS: Please don't mind that I moved the topic, but we have created a new forum especially for this topic. Please post such questions there.
