Having purchased a legal copy of FSX i installed it on my F drive, then later decided to uninstall and move it to my C drive, that's when my problems started. The reinstall went fine until right at the very end it said a needed file was not completed and gave me a 1721 error then the thing started rolling back. after umpteen attempts at trying to get the thing to install, even reformatting the hard drive was no good. I have an expensive programme about to be thrown in the bin. So a warning to anyone intending to do the same DON'T, you will never get it to work again. Microsoft are useless at diagnosing a problem with their own software. The web is littered with people having the same problem and no fix that works.
Anyone here got the answer?. |

The same thing happened to me, I uninstalled it because about 2 weeks into using the "real, original, legal" copy of it, it said "Thank You for using the Trial Version" and cut me off. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and I had the same problem. At around the same time, I had other unrelated computer problems and just wound up reinstalling Windows XP and went to the store to get a new copy of FSX and it's worked fine since. I just wonder if it would have installed with the original software but probably not. I think there's a guard in the software that prevents you from installing it on multiple computers but then it's a one time deal, once installed always installed and if you uninstall it, you have to trash the CD and buy a whole new one. What a deal, huh? Sorry I can't help more. |

I would guess there is a more underlying problem here, I have installed FSX numerous times on my PC, even switching between the two hard drives I have .......... Never been a problem.
I doubt very much it's a fault with FSX.

Ok everybody, settle down for a sec.
I posted this a couple of times already. If you have the "demo" version, you need to uninstall it. If you don't, then you will have problems when you install the paid version of it. No need to reformat or reinstall Windows XP.
As for problems with FSX, you can install it as many times that you need to, on the same computer. The trick or problem is, you can only install it on 2 computers, with 2 different IP addresses. If your IP has changed when you go through the connect program, then you will also see problems. Not all the time, but it does happen.
Also, there is no "Trial Version" if you bought it.

Just been talking about that same 30 minutes limitation with Tomcatdriver earlier this week on his topic re F14 add-on. I blamed his add-on(jokeing only Steve!) He slated me for tinkering with his stuff- so hence my new signature.
I tried to REPAIR but FSX deluxe didnt seem to like that, stuck twice mid effort, so resorted to starting from scratch- removed everything and reinstalled. NO PROBLEMS and of course Tomcatdrivers superb F14 flies like a dream, just me the crummy pilot that spoils the day.
I SAW THIS OTHER QUOTE from jaeger52 " For Father's Day, I received FSX Deluxe and was happy and grateful to recieve it. But I don't dare attempt installing it on my present computer because it simply will not be an enjoyable experience, graphically speaking. Which is to say nothing of the fact that you get only two free installs with the provided EULA (End User License Agreement).
Didnt think that this was so as this is the third time I have reinstalled.
so I go with rd's last posting. |

| As stated, it's not the number of times you reinstall FSX, it's the number of platforms you can install it to, which is limited to 2, dos, duae, a couple of 'em....etc. |
