Hi everyone,

i've been doing flight sim for 7 months i have completed all the bigginners tutorials in how to become a pilot.Now i'm fly planes but i can't land but i can take off really well but the landing is rubbish but i've been pracising.Now my dads mate is a pilot for KLM and he said that you can using autopilot for landing and taking off, i'm having trouble using auto pilot i know how to turn it on by pressing Z and the Flight director but i was wonder can anyone tell me how to code a flight so autopilot ork becuase i have no idea what the autopilot buttons do like alititude,select alitiude,localizer etc so if anyone can help that would be really good.

What I recommend is to read the tutorials in FS9 relative to the Auto pilot operation

Then familarize yourself TOTALLY with what keyboard functions are for operation of the auto Pilot--You may change these settings to your liking if you wish

Unless a aircraft is FULLY equipped to land automatically by auto pilot to touch down, a pilot will disconnect the auto pilot at some safe altitude and visibility and land the plane mannually

Ask your friend that flies KLM to tell you more about this

Why bother jumping ahead of the training? A/P is NOT for start-up pilots.

It is for a much more advanced purpose.

NOT: "I can't land manually, so I will press "A/P LAND ME" button?

Only a FEW aircraft in REAL LIFE can do an AUTO-LAND TO TARMAC and taxi to spot, safely, most every time.

AP all the way to tarmac: The C-5B, L-1011, AF-1, HI-END 747 models, and some of the newer aircraft wide bodies (A380 is one) PLUS OTHERS I HAVE MISSED.

SO CHILL GANG.

A/P will fail. Now do you want to be the Captain that BOUGHT THE FARM due to your COMFORT level needs being met? OR, one that learned the correct way to fly, through proper training methods & courses?

If you want to just "wiz bang" the sim, I won't help you.

I will yell you this: THE LAST 5 MINUTES OF A FLIGHT to TOUCHDOWN is some of the most DANGEROUS MOMENTS of a flight!

Same as the first 5 minutes after takeoff.

A/P is for cruising. Gives the pilots a break. BUT NEVER WILL YOU FIND A CREW THAT LEAVES THE COCKPIT WITH ONLY A/P ON!
Against FAA regulatons! Plus--FLAT OUT STUPID!

So just KEEP FLYING THE STICK METHOD UNTIL YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE A GREAT LANDING. You will be a BETTER, SAFER PILOT!

If you consider FSX & FS9 a sim: THEN ACT LIKE IT IS LIKE REAL LIFE!
You will fly better, safer.

Well i have done all the lessons on how to become a pilot and i know that all the boeings and airbuses have autopilot and i want a change instead of useing mamual i would like to try autopilot landing out as you can in real life and also FS9 is to expensive for me i only could only buy the FS2002 as it was all i could buy Wink.now sorry for having ago but that is all i wanted is help not saying theres no point in doing it and i got that help for Dingy.

You say you have been flying Sims for only 7 months, that ok, but what Steve was saying A/P is for advanced use, learn to fly the aircraft first, then progress to using A/P later. no one learned to fly by by having A/P on for take offs and landings.

You will find that some answers to your questions are what YOU want to hear, other anwsers are what YOU should know. Please try an bear that in mind.

Just one more thing......... Tomcat (Steve), knows what he is saying, and I know it to be correct.

BTW..... best of luck with your flying

ok thanks Mel,

But i have been on and off Flight ism i brought it 7 months ago but only sarted recently flying again becuase of exams and making trians for bve etc and i know the 737 boeing off the back of my hand as its my favourite plane but i'm trying and trying to land and keep on failing so i wanted to see what autopilot was like landing if you know what i mean.

I understand what your saying, if you want to use A/P then fine, go ahead... When I was knee high to a grasshopper, I had a bike with stabilisers, then there came a time when they had to come off........ Like your landings, I kept falling off......... but I made sure I got right back on, and kept doing it... untill I got it right..........

It's all about airspeed and approach........ not forgetting a little flap.. LOL

My own personal choice......... I never use A/P, unless i'm on a long haul flight, and I need a drink, but then I always make sure my dog's watching the screen while i'm away..... Wink
