As for FS pausing when you switch tasks, you must deselect the "pause on task" feature so FS will keep running, then you can manuallly pause it as necessary with the "P" command.
Despite numerous attempts at getting Windows sound recorder to pick up any audio from FSX, nothing gets recorded....... Unchecked "Pause on task switch", (as advised by GS), activated sound recorder, then ran FSX, as soon as I hit record on the sound, FSX goes quiet, and nothing records.
sound recorder only records in mono. wav is default, it can be saved in another format.
Why continue with this dead horse? Use a sound card.
Fraps latest version is DX10 ready.
Just my observaion.
So what if fraps takes frames?
These GREAT (supposedly) Video cards SHOULD handle the hits by fraps.
Mine does, xp pro, 400fsb, 2 gb ddr, 160gb 7200, 8 mb buff. + nvidia fx5200 128 Mb/64bit.
I record at 10-15. Start at reg rate of 30.
Plays audio/visual just fine. I will not chg a system that works.
In my opinion, nothing is going to work in solving the sound issue with the Video Recorder in FSX..... and believe me, I have just about tried everything, "Game Cam", is a possibility..... just downloaded and tried the unregistered version, and although I think on first impressions, it could be slightly superior to Fraps, I am not about to spend money to confirm it, or even if it will work with FSX, but my gut feeling tells me it will, but I see little point when we all know that Fraps has already proven itself.
The FSX Video Recorder will be fine, so long as you resign yourself to the fact, you will not get sound with audio, and that you will need to put it through a Video Editor, such as Windows Movie Maker, for three reasons, 1) to join your clips together. 2) to add an audio file of your choice. 3) (AND A MUST) to convert the finished file to WMV Format, to reduce the file size.
I will still continue to use Fraps to record all my movies with FS9, and will also use it now with FSX.
I dare say that there is software out there that will make the FSX Video option come out complete with sound, but the whole purpose of this exercise, for me and everyone else, was to determine if this was possible to achive with the tools readily available, sadly it does not seem to be.
Thanks for everyones input on this, it was much appreciated......... But now it's time to put this one to bed.

Also when recording through FSX Default, you have to drop your settings if you want a smooth flight/capture.
Didn't mean to blow you off Mel on the sound recorder. I did another test today, and actually noticed that the sound was only for a minute. I must have done the one before this one, heard sound, and called it good. I recorded sound.
I have FRAPS, and I cannot knock it one bit. FS9 and FSX recordings of my flights, looks as if I am flying it now. I get 40 fps with FS9 and 20-28 on FSX. I do work my g-card, but it isn't screaming in pain either.
Otherwise, I am completely done with anything to do with default FSX video recording.
