According to Lt. Bobby Cornett, A/C of his "Lil Jill", F14D "Tarped", from his boat, the CV-62, USS Independence. VF-154 "Black Knights".

QUOTE: "during night bombing of Kosovo, THIS NON BOMBARDMENT PLATFORM using TARPS & NVG's OUT bombed EVERY other ALLIED AIRCRAFT in the NATO field in "Tonnage On TARGET", Number of TARGETS DESTROYED vs. Sortie flown & targets assigned in SIOP packs.

NO LOSS of any aircraft, NO lost pilots, THE War's STELLAR performer WHICH was EXPECTED have high losses, low hits per sortie. It played a follow-up role to the other Fighter Bombers in which we lost our most PRIZE WEAPON: the costly STEALTH F117.

The F-16 Falcon, in which a pilot was shot down behind enemy lines. Along with MANY planes suffering battle damage above the Tomcats own fleet rate." UNQUOTE, by Bobby Cornett, LT., USN (ret)

Email Bobby, at bobby.cornett@yahoo.com.

MENTION HORNETS, he WILL SHARE his AVID disgust of that bird.
I rest my case & yield my last 10 minutes to Lt. Bobby Cornett.

He still flies Marines & Navy personnel all over the world for strategic planning. He is still in a classified pilot's job as a civilian. His wife is a retired Army(E-6) FAC. They BOTH saw wartime combat action in Iraq:92-93.

They live in Ft. Campbell Amy Base, Paducah, KY.

Want to see him? Go to "MY SPACE", search & find his web page.
Want to discuss "little bees" as he calls them, look at THIS BUFFED out Bug Killer! LOL

Send him an email, in time, he will answer.

HE IS MY SOURCE! I take his word as gold. I have known him and been his friend since 04/06. His mom and dad live in Beatrice, Nebraska.

*Point taken on safety. But IF I worried so much about safety, WE NEVER WOULD LAUNCH our BUFFS in WAR.

Safety was not really a concern.

We were the best at what we did. JUST GETTING the Crew & BUFF to & from the target alive was our only concern..

Safety is what my crew practiced when we sloshed down the Keg after a successful SIOP.

Shame if we were not careful with that beer!-------& SPILLED IT

'nuf said good buddy.

Coming from a family with long military roots, I can safely say that budgets have forced more compromises than technology ever will.

Kosovo?
I knew the VF-154 when they were NK tagged and flying off my boat, the Indy (CV-62). Crica 1989 to 1991.
There were no bombs loaded on F-14's that I noticed on my boat, I notice such things. Had to, know where stuff is that can kill you dead, head on a swivel.
Times and tides my friend, times and tides.
This pilot, like I am to you is a bit younger, the next generation. I saw TARPS, I saw the spooks and I saw the movement. But never saw bombs on a 154 bird in the day.
Not discounting, just saying that what I noticed, or actually didn't notice was bombs. There was a entire theater shift in the in between.
Times and tides...

I still don't see where you can beat me (in an F/A 18 ) while your in your F-14.

IF, your talking about weapons and the AIM-54 Phoenix missile, guess what, you can't have it. The US Navy retired its Phoenix capability in 2005 in light of availability of the AIM-120 AMRAAM on the F/A-18 Hornet.

Untill the F/A-18 had it, did the F-14"D" was set up to carry it. So, taking the same weapons loadout, in my F/A 18, and you in your F-14D, you will not make it home... alive. Sorry.

And to note. I spent time on the USS Constellation, 7 months. As a Weapons man, I had to be on deck during Cat launches. I wore a Red jacket and helmet, for ordinance load and EOD. However, we in the Nuke platoon, had a special stripe. Still classified, so I can't say anymore about it.

But to choose which I thought was safer on deck... the F-14 loses. That *beep* put out some heat on deck. Even after leaving the deck, and the wall coming down, you still felt it. Not so much with the F-18.

Another note.... You cat a F-14, and have it go hard right/left....guess what.... the F/A 18 can cat and turn inside the radius of the F14. Seen it. The F-14 does not have the manueverability loaded that the F-18 has loaded. Plus the fact that the F-18 can recover and twist faster than the F-14.

As for Kosovo, I am out of that discussion.

I was on the Connie too, she was my first boat. We transitioned to the Indy after she sailed around the Horn.
I was in from 88 to 91 on active duty, got out right after Storm ended. That is why I put the question on Kosovo. I have no idea, after my time. Could have traded bullets for Popsicles for all I know.

Steve!
Why are you coming back in and editing your posts?
This makes everyone that comes after in a post look like they are all doped up or something.
With the info you posted, you could have saved a kid from having to do research on a term paper!
And that ain't bad!
Shame on you
